What a sad end to his life.

Former Penn State University coach Joe Paterno died Sunday morning just two months after being diagnosed with lung cancer.

As we all know by now, after 46 years of coaching at Penn State, Joe was fired last November following the sexual abuse scandal involving his former assistant coach, Jerry Sandusky.

His family released the following statement:

Joe Paterno Is In The Hospital Again

Paterno in Hospital

If he wouldn't have been fired, it looks like health reasons would have forced Joe Paterno to retire this year.

The sick former Penn State football coach has been admitted into the hospital again. His family hopes the stay is brief, but Paterno was hospitalized for minor complications from his ongoing lung cancer treatments just a month after fracturing his pelvis.

Things aren't all bad for the all-time winningest football coach in NCAA Division I history. PSU officials revealed on Thursday that Paterno is still getting paid despite being relieved of his coaching duties last fall after the Jerry Sandusky sex scandal broke.

A statement from Chairman Steve Garban and Vice Chairman John Surma read:

"Coach Paterno remains employed by the university as a tenured faculty member. The details of his retirement are being worked out and will be made public when they are finalized. Generally speaking, the university intends to honor the terms of his employment contract and is treating him financially as if he had retired at the end of the 2011 football season."

We hope this guy's health starts to turn around soon and he's able to beat this cancer! Feel better soon, Joe!

Adele Is Still Smoking After Throat Surgery

Adele still smoking

We're a little disappointed to hear this news, but then again, she never expressed any interest in quitting in the first place.

Adele, who is recovering from microsurgery to remove a benign polyp from her vocal cords, has been spotted smoking again!

An eyewitness saw the singing sensation lighting up after dinner with her new beau, Simon Konecki, and told sources:

"Adele and Simon had dinner at Bobby Rubino's in Pompano Beach, Fla., on Jan. 1. Right after they were done, she walked out of the place and had a cigarette outside."

After getting back to the UK, Adele was also spotted smoking in a car, which doctors do not advise after surgery, explaining:

"It reduces the body's ability to heal and causes irritation. The risk of infection is enhanced. Smoking is a deterrent. Especially for women, it lowers their voices and makes it rougher."

That's not good! Adele, however, doesn't seem to care about the advice and candidly commented on smoking by saying:

"I gave up smoking for two months. It was f—ing grim. I had laryngitis about a week before the album came out and it was so frightening. I stopped smoking, drinking, eating or drinking citrus, spicy foods and caffeine. It was so f—ing boring…. My voice was better when I wasn't smokingWithin a week I noticed it had changed, but I'd rather my voice be a bit s–t so I can have a f—ing laugh."

We hope Adele never faces the dangerous side effects of smoking, but we do worry about the health of any smoker we love. Please consider quitting smoking for both your future and your fans, gurl!

Study Suggests Smoking Pot On Occasion Won't Harm Your Lungs

Smoking weed lungs

Occasional stoners rejoice!

A 20-year study has revealed that smoking marijuana once or twice a week doesn't hurt the lungs.

Smoking once or twice a day, however, is a different story.

Although there weren't enough heavy users among the 5,000 young adults involved to draw firm conclusions, this large-scale study determined using marijuana that often might cause a decline in lung function.

Similar studies into marijuana use have yet to find a link between smoking the drug and lung cancer.

The effects of pot seem to be much less dangerous than tobacco, but researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham recommended "caution and moderation when marijuana use is considered."

We'd like to echo that sentiment. It's still an illegal drug and can still impair your judgement. Smoke at your own risk!

Getting Rid Of Bad Breath After Quitting Cigarettes

Craig Nabt

Bad breath sure stinks, but lung cancer stinks worse!

FitPerez reader Samuel made the right decision and quit smoking recently, but he's suffering from bad breath, which is a common side effect of quitting tobacco.

He came to the right place for advice to get rid of it and wrote smoking counselor Craig Nabat, asking:

Hi Craig,

I quit smoking a month ago and I have been getting really bad breathe? How long will this last?

According to Craig:

Hello Samuel,

To still be experiencing bad breath one month after quitting is pretty unusual. If you haven’t snuck a cig here and there over the past month, you should be in the clear by now, because all of the toxins have left your system.

You may want to try one of these two breath freshener products, Therabreath or Mint Asure. Each of these products can provide you with fresher breath that should also help inspire you to stay off smoking. Keep one of these products near to you at all times. Just do a Google search for them.

We always recommend to our Freedom Laser Therapy clients that it is a good idea to get your teeth professionally cleaned once you quit smoking. The former smoker loves experiencing their clean teeth and a fresh mouth again.

Best regards,

Craig

Joe Paterno Lands Himself In The Hospital For Fractured Pelvis

Joe Pa lands himself in hospital

Ouch!

Former Penn State coach Joe Paterno is in the hospital after fracturing his pelvis during a fall in his home on Saturday.

The fall is only more bad luck for the legendary college football coach. Not only was he fired thanks to the Jerry Sandusky sex scandal, but he's fighting lung cancer as well!

Thankfully for JoePa, no surgery will be needed, but he will remain in the hospital as his condition stabilizes.

With everything going on in the 85-year-old's life, this is probably the last thing he needed. We're glad to hear he's okay and wish him a speedy recovery so he can continue his lung cancer treatments.
