With NBC's live production of Hairspray drawing closer, we can't help but think of all the incredible women who've starred in the lead role over the years.
As you may recall, Ricki Lake made the character Tracy Turnblad famous in John Waters' 1988 hit film Hairspray. Marissa Jaret Winokur would then go onto win a Tony for the same role in the Broadway adaptation of flick. Now Maddie Baillio is taking the reigns as the plus-size optimist for the highly anticipated televised production. So it's safe to say the pressure is on — especially since so many young girls look up to Tracy!
Rather than playing Rae Sremmurd's song Black Beatles in the background like most clips have done, the NBC musical aptly opted to use their cast's recording of You Can't Stop The Beat!
The AH-mazing video shows off stars Derek Hough, Shahadi Wright, Dove Cameron, Garrett Clayton, Harvey Fierstein, Martin Short, Ephraim Sykes, newcomer Maddie Baillio, and the ensemble cast frozen in the midst of rehearsals.
Ariana Grande's pop star presence was only represented by her character photo displayed on one of the monitors, but that's probably because the singer didn't even start rehearsals until Friday, according to her Snapchat story.
Watch the talented cast totally slay in the HIGHlarious clip (above)!
This vid is soooo good that we can't WAIT to see how the live musical turns out!
That's because while promoting Hairspray Live! at the Television Critics Association press tour on Tuesday, Penny Pingleton herself flat out said participating in the NBC musical was "way much more fun" than her pop star career!
