Katie Couric Aiming To Replace Oprah, Ad Agencies Not Buying It!

Katie Couric may be filling the void of Oprah Winfrey's timeslot, but she's yet to fill the void left in ad agencies' hearts.

They used to pay $100,000 for a 30 second spot during Oprah. Katie? She'll be lucky to see $50,000. They believe in themselves, though! That's their opening offer.

But let us point out that's more than even Ellen asks for! She only sees $40,000 a spot, and she's arguably the hottest talk show around right now!!!

But we'll wait and see… even though Madison Avenue is somewhat laughing at the number, she does have that coveted timeslot after all.

There will be millions of housewives coming home from picking the kids up around that time. The perfect chance to sell that vibrating mop!

Barneys New York To Donate FNO Sales To 9/11 Memorial

Amazing!

This year's Fashion's Night Out is all about giving back for Barneys New York.

The department store announced they will donate 10% of its FNO sales at the Madison Avenue flagship and 10% of Barneys.com sales to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum to mark the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Barneys CEO Mark Lee said in a press release:

"Whereas during the last two Fashion’s Night Out events, Barneys New York led with innovative entertainment and designer participation in activities such as karaoke, musical chairs and ping pong, we want this year to refocus all of our efforts on the shopping experience, which was the original impetus for Fashion’s Night Out—and in turn, raise the highest possible donation for this worthy cause on this solemn anniversary. We invite all of our customers, designers, vendors and business partners to participate."

Hopefully more retailers will follow their lead!

Carine Roitfeld Has A New Job

Almost 2 months after leaving her post at Vogue Paris, Carine Roitfeld already has a new employer: Barneys.

For her new gig, the former editor-in-chief will play stylist and guest editor for the fall advertising campaign, catalog, mailers and the Madison Avenue windows.

Barneys creative director Dennis Freedman added Carine will also act as the department store's muse because her personal style reflects their customers. He explains:

"She has a unique and extraordinary personal style. She appeals to all ages. She is independent and strong, and yet she is completely feminine. She is a woman of the world, which we like to think our customer is, as well."

That also means Carine will be spending a lot more time in New York City, or as she calls it her "dream city".

Anna Wintour must be thrilled.

On Friday, hubby Jay-Z shelled out $350,000 on Birkin bags and other gifts at the Madison Avenue boutique.
