PETA's Anti-Mario Campaign A Joke

peta-mario-whatejlk.jpg

It's not uncommon for PETA's stunts and ads to really ruffle some feathers, but apparently, nintendo and Mario fans were so upset with PETA's "Mario Kills Tanooki" campaing, that PETA actually came out and said on the record that they were joking.

As we previously mentioned, PETA attacked Mario for wearing fur in his upcoming adventure, Super Mario 3D Land.

PETA said Mario fans should "relax" and that their violent video-game parody where a bloody, skinned raccoon dog chases down Mario (who's wearing it's skin) was:

"[…] meant to be tongue-in-cheek, a fun way to call attention to a serious issue, that raccoon dogs are skinned alive for their fur."

PETA said they were:

"[…] a little surprised that the game was taken so literally by some, but we're thrilled that we're able to bring so much attention to raccoon dogs whose suffering is very real.

Our spoof is simply making a serious point: that there is a much darker story behind tanuki skins than Mario lets on."

We're actually a little surprised at PETA for making light of such a serious and horrible issue.

At least PETA wasn't actually attacking the video game.

A spokesperson said:

"No one really believes that Mario actually kills and skins a raccoon dog for his fur in Super Mario 3D Land."

Well at least they've made their intentions clear.

And it is good that people are more aware of the plight of the raccoon dog.

PETA launched a campaign called "Mario Kills Tanooki."

Nintendo is releasing Super Mario 3D Land and it marks the return of the Tanooki transformation, that was first in Super Mario Bros. 3.

Tanooki is based on the Japanese raccoon dog, and when Mario powers up, he's able to flap his tail and float around the level.

PETA, upset that he's wearing a fur suit, said:

Super Mario Bro's

LOLz!

Hate is such a strong word, but it seemed to be on the tip of Bob Hoskins' tongue when asked about his starring role as Mario in the 1993 Super Mario Bros. movie.

So Long, And Thanks For Wii Fit! New Nintendo System Coming Out NEXT YEAR!

new nintendo system to come out next year

Don't worry, Wii! We'll meet again…on eBay.

We've all had a wonderful time working out with Wii fit, racing our friends on Mario Kart, and accidentally throwing our controllers while Wii bowling, but now it's time to move on.

Nintendo has announced that their new system will be released next year, with a "playable" model to be showcased at the Los Angeles E3 expo from June 7 to 9.

No details have been revealed about the new system yet, but we wouldn't be surprised if there were 3D capablities, and we'll definitely expect more games with that Italian plumber/hero…what's his name again…? Ha!

Are U excited for the new Nintendo system?

Super Mario Bros Video Game Street Coming Soon!

Filed under: Wacky, Tacky & TrueSilly!Tech Talk

street in spain named after super mario bros

How would U like to live on a street named after Super Mario Bros?

The Arcosur Neighborhood Association of Zaragoza in northeast Spain seem to LOVE the idea!

On Saturday, Arcosur residents celebrated the unveiling of "Avenida de Super Mario Bros."

Highlights of the celebration included attendees wearing fake black mustaches, a dancing Mario mascot, and a violin/cello duet performing the Mario Bros' immortal theme song.

For those of you out there who would prefer to live on a different video-game themed street, Sonic The Hedgehog, Space Invaders, and The Legend of Zelda streets are in the works.

Here's what Arcosur neighborhood association president Antonio Almudi Miranda had to say about naming streets after video games:

"We are people who grew up living with video games. We know them very well. I'm 25. I'm the same age as Mario."

To commemorate the opening of the street, as well as Super Mario's 25th anniversary, Nintendo reps handed out prizes during Saturday's unveiling of Avenida de Super Mario Bros.

Would U like to live on a street named after Super Mario Bros? If not, what video game-themed street would U want to live on?

Mario's Mother Drops Assault Charges

This afternoon, R&B singer Mario was cleared of all charges in an assault case when his mother asked they be dropped.

Considering she was the one that brought them up, she had the right!

His mother, Shawntia Hardaway, charged her son with attacking her in October, but changed her tune today when she told the judge she was intoxicated at the time and nothing really happened. As a result, prosecutors agreed to dismiss all charges against the singer.

Not the best relationship between a son and his mother, but at least she came clean about everything.

Mom's Drug Addiction Was To Blame For Mario's Assault

Filed under: DrugsMusic MinuteLegal MattersSad Sad

singermariowatermarkwenn.jpg

We still don't think it was okay for singer Mario to beat up his mom though!

Mario was charged with assaulting his mother, Shawntia Hardaway, and was arrested on Friday. He was later released on bail. His lawyer, Hassan Murphy, called it "an unfortunate incident between a loving son and a mother who continues to struggle with a devastating addiction."

Mario's mother was the subject of a 2007 award-winning TV documentary titled, I Won't Love You to Death: The Story of Mario and His Mom, which documented his troubled relationship with his heroin-addicted mother.

Hardaway had called the police on Friday claiming that her son "started yelling at her and he used his hands and forearms and pushed her in the chest and shoulder area causing minor pain and discomfort." When the police arrived, they found a severely damaged" china cabinet, a broken mirror, a busted door and "a lot of glass lying on the floor" in their apartment.

Mario's lawyer spoke of Hardaway's addiction, saying:

"Anyone who has waged the battle to save loved ones from the forces of drugs knows the irrational behavior that almost always accompanies their actions. Despite the allegations, Mario remains committed to supporting his mother."

It still doesn't give him the right to lay his hands on his own mother. We hope they can get help.

Sad.
