This is the world we live in.
In another example of a man being valued more than a woman for the same position — it's been revealed that Yahoo's new male CEO, Thomas McInerney, will make double that of current head honcho Marissa Mayer's salary.
It's important to note Mayer was extremely criticized for her inability to turn the company around following that hacking scandal — but you should also understand that McInerney won't have nearly as many responsibilities as Mayer did, as Yahoo just made a deal with Verizon, and will essentially just become a "mutual fund."
"McInerney will collect a paycheck for what may practically be a no-show job. After all, the company that McInerney will run will not be an operating business like the one Yahoo is today, but rather an investment company not all that different from a mutual fund. In fact, Yahoo has already begun referring to the future version of itself, which will be renamed Altaba, as simply 'the Fund.'"
As far as numbers go, although Mayer will be seeing a $23 million severance package, McInerney's offer letter reveals he will make $2 million base salary per year (compared to Mayer's $1 million), plus his annual bonus and "long term incentive reward."
