Ian Holm WILL Return As Older Bilbo Baggins In The Hobbit!!!

ian holm will play older bilbo baggins in the hobbit

Lord of the Rings fans, rejoice! Bilbo is back!

Back in October, we were excited to learn that Love Actually/The Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy star Martin Freeman had been cast as Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit!

Now, we're EVEN MORE excited to report that Ian Holm will return as an older version of Bilbo in the epic LOTR prequel films.

Here's what Peter Jackson said about it on his Facebook page:

One comment that came up from the recent video blog was the Bilbo voice at the end—many of you assumed it was Sir Ian Holm. Whilst Ian will be returning as the older Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit, that recording was actually Martin Freeman's voice, taken from a script read through we recorded when the cast first arrived. I have to admit, I wasn't sure who it was when I first heard it, either. Cheers, Peter J

Such great news! We think both Bilbo actors will be wonderful!

Are U excited about Ian Holm's return as an older Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit?

Ian McKellen Gets His Blog On, Talks Hobbit

ian mckellen talks hobbit on his blog

For SUCH a long time, we were anxiously awaiting confirmation on Ian McKellen's involvement in The Hobbit films.

Now, Ian is confirmed to return as Gandalf, and he's decided to take to his blog to tell us why it took so long for him to get officially attached to the project.

Here's what he had to say blog about it:

All I had to decide was what to do with the time that is given me.

I’m 71 and fit: though at my age who knows what accident is ’round the next corner? For a year or more, I have been arranging my professional commitments around the possibility of The Hobbit films starting at almost anytime. We brought the Waiting for Godot tour of Australia to New Zealand early 2010, assuming I would stay on to start shooting soon after. Then there was yet another delay: but in Wellington I met with Guillermo del Toro and later read his script for Part One, written with the LOTR writing team. It was true to the style, the fun and the romance of the trilogy.

When Peter Jackson, already producing, resumed the director’s chair, he kept me in touch with developments. A second screenplay was sent over, on the understanding that I would not talk about what I read in it.

After the ruckus over trade union expectations and unlikely rumours of filming outside New Zealand, suddenly crucial casting was announced, plus a start date in February 2011. Martin Freeman as Bilbo sounds perfect. As my agent continued to negotiate with Warner Brothers, I kept wondering was Gandalf what I most wanted to do, more than a new play for instance or indeed a new part? Sequels aren’t necessarily as rewarding to act in as their originals.

Could I let Gandalf go? Would anyone else care if I did? Elsewhere, does anyone care that Michael Gambon was not the first to play Dumbledore?

The deciding negotiation was not about money but about dates. Gandalf is needed on set over the next 18 months but with sizeable breaks when I can work on other projects. My worry that I could not easily escape from Middle Earth was lifted.

I am happy to say I start filming in Wellington on February 21 2011.

–Ian McKellen, London, January 2011

Your energy and passion for your craft at 71-years-old is an inspiration, Ian.

We're very happy to have U back!

Ian McKellen Still Not Set For Hobbit Film

we want ian mckellan to play gandalf in the hobbit

We've been very happy with Hobbit casting announcements so far…especially Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins.

The one announcement that we haven't heard, though, is who will play Gandalf, and we REALLY hope that person is Ian McKellen!

For a long time, it seemed like McKellen as Gandalf would be a sure thing, but he recently said to Broadway World that he wasn't under contract for the film yet. He didn't comment further because he was worried that it "might complicate things."

How is he not under contract? Ian McKellen should have been the FIRST actor to be placed under contract for this movie!

Spread the word - WE WANT IAN!!!!

First Hobbit Casting Announcements!!!

first hobbit casting announcements released

Now that the film has gotten the greenlight and Hobbit drama has calmed down, the fun Hobbit updates can begin!

The lead character, Bilbo Baggins, will be played by Martin Freeman! You probably remember him as the endearing adult film actor from Love Actually. He's also appeared as Arthur Dent in The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. We think he's great for this role.

Here are some other major casting announcements:

-Richard Armitage (Captain America: The First Avenger) as Thorin Oakenshield, leader of the Company of Dwarves

-Aidan Turner (Being Human) and Rob Kazinsky (EastEnders) as Dwarves Kili and Fili

-Graham McTavish (Secretariat) as Dwalin

-John Callen (Power Rangers Jungle Fury) as Oin

-Stephen Hunter (All Saints) as Bombur

-Mark Hadlow (King Kong) as Dori

-Peter Hambleton (The Strip) as Gloin

Rumored cast members include Ian McKellen as Gandalf and Andy Serkis as Gollum.

Stephen Fry, Saoirse Ronan, and Bill Nighy are also on Peter Jackson's radar.

What do U think of these casting choices? Do U think they made the right choice for Bilbo Baggins?

Meet Bilbo Baggins! (Hopefully!)

bbwenn5488120.jpg

There has been all kinds of set backs with this movie, but for this guy's sake, we hope they work this one out.

Meet Martin Freeman. You probably know him best as Tim from the original U.K. version of The Office. Anywhoos, Martin was approached by New Line and MGM, who are backing the new Hobbit movie, to star as the iconic Bilbo Baggins character. It's an offer no one would want to refuse, considering, as we hear it, it was a seven-figure offer.

But alas, Martin had to decline, as his schedule wouldn't allow it, as he is currently committed to shooting the new BBC series, Sherlock. However, we're hearing that the studio is desperate to nab him and they are working on a new shooting schedule that would be more accommodating for Martin.

A lot of work and money is going in to get this guy. Let's hope it works! We think he would be great!
