Before the Olympics even began, there was a lot of controversy surrounding the health and safety conditions in Rio, and last weekend's story of Ryan Lochte getting held up at gunpoint might be the worst we've heard — if it's true!
Over the weekend, the famed swimmer claimed that he and other Olympic athletes Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger, and Jimmy Feigen were robbed by men pretending to be cops. Well as you may know, the Brazilian police haven't exactly been overly willing to trust the US swimmer's story.
While the Government wanted to question the 32-year-old, he had already left the country and was back home in the states. However, Brazil was able to detain Bentz and Conger — who have now been released — and questioned them about what went down. A rep for the United States Olympic Committee released a statement in response to the release, saying:
