Matt Smith has finally broken his silence on The Crown's pay disparity drama weeks after producers let it slip that he was making more than his costar Claire Foy, who plays the lead role of Queen Elizabeth II on the Netflix period drama.

Smith, who plays Prince Philip in season one and two of the acclaimed series, spoke out in support of Foy and was pleased to acknowledge that the controversy had since been "resolved."

He told The Hollywood Reporter at the premiere of his upcoming film Mapplethorpe:

The Crown fans cried mutiny earlier this month when producers revealed that series lead Claire Foy was paid less than her costar Matt Smith — but no one felt more rattled by the news than the Queen herself.

Foy broke her silence on the fuss surrounding her salary over the weekend. While she admitted that being the center of the drama felt "very out of the ordinary," she of course understood why fans were royally pissed off.

The Crown Producers Admit Claire Foy Was Paid Less Than Her On-Screen Husband Matt Smith!

No one gets paid more than The Queen… except for The Doctor.

During an INTV conference panel on Tuesday, producers of Netflix's The Crown admitted that series lead Claire Foy was paid less than Matt Smith, the Prince Phillip to her Queen Elizabeth II.

Foy received a reported $40,000 per episode for her award winning portrayal of the royal, while Smith's salary for playing her husband is unreported.

Producers attributed Smith's higher salary to his fame as the title character of Doctor Who, but reassured the audience that her majesty gets a rightful paycheck in the future. Exec Suzanne Mackie quipped:

The Crown's Claire Foy and Matt Smith both decided to suit up for this year's Golden Globes on Sunday as their Netflix show is nominated again this year!

And of course, Claire is nominated for best actress in a drama TV series!

If she wins, the actress will be able to show of her "Equal Representation for Actresses" pin up on stage, which campaigns for a 50:50 gender balance on screen in the UK!

The Stars Of Netflix's The Crown Want Selena Gomez To Play Meghan Markle On The Show!

Well now THIS would be an interesting casting choice!!!

The Crown is Netflix's award-winning drama on the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, and while the show tends to jump around a bit in time periods over the last few decades, some of its stars are already thinking about how to work in a Meghan Markle storyline to the series!!

After seasons one and two of the show were set in the 1950s and 1960s, the upcoming seasons three and four are set to feature new actors and jump ahead in time, perhaps nearly to the present day — and so The Crown stars Matt Smith and Claire Foy decided to toss out one BIG suggestion for casting the likely part of Meghan: Selena Gomez!!

The Crown's Season Two Trailer Teases Drama Among All Of The Royal Family — Watch The Tension HERE!

Scandal is about to rock Buckingham Palace.

On Monday, Netflix dropped an in depth trailer for the second season of their acclaimed drama, The Crown, inspired by Queen Elizabeth II's life. And, boy, are things about to get juicy!!

Not only does the second season tease a rogue Princess Margaret, but it appears the Queen and her husband, Prince Philip, will continue to be at odds during this next chapter. In fact, if those longing gazes are any indication, Philip will be unfaithful once again. Uh oh!!

Sadly, this will be the last season for Claire Foy and Matt Smith's portrayals of Elizabeth and Philip, as they are to be replaced by more age-appropriate actors for season three. It's said Olivia Colman will play the Queen in the coming seasons.

Matt Smith and Claire Foy didn't let us down at the SAG Awards on Sunday!

The Crown stars actually made our hearts jump with their stunning joint arrival, giving us such dapper vibes.

While fans may be used to seeing the duo in such regal outfits for the show, we love seeing them have some fun with these looks. Her Majesty Claire completely wowed in her embroidered black gown with the plunging pink slip underneath and chic updo.

It's no wonder Matt wanted to let his on-screen wife shine!!
