Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda Gets Candid About Chester Bennington's 'Complicated' & 'Child-Like' Personality: 'He Could Be Really Hot And Cold'

It's been a heavy year for Mike Shinoda.

The Linkin Park vocalist sat down with Rolling Stone to discuss his first ever solo-album Post-Traumatic, in which he details the struggles he's gone through since his bandmate Chester Bennington died by suicide last July.

Though he says the album isn't entirely entirely about Bennington, most of Shinoda's songs explore the challenges he's had in trying to understand himself without his larger-than-life friend by his side.

Describing Bennington as a "complicated" individual with a volatile but charismatic personality, Shinoda remembered:

"He was really loud, and it wasn't just volume – he had a loud personality. We would joke that he could just go about anywhere and make friends with everybody in the place. He was just a really fun-loving dude, but he was also complicated."

Shinoda added that the singer, who battled depression and other mental health issues, could be "really hot and cold on stuff," explaining:

Linkin Park Performs Moving Tribute To Chester Bennington In Group's First Show Since His Suicide

This is SO moving.

On Friday night at the Hollywood Bowl in El Lay, Linkin Park performed for the first time since Chester Bennington's suicide in July, and they made sure he was front and center in their minds and hearts during the powerful, emotional evening.

Mike Shinoda performed Looking for an Answer, which you can watch (above), during the concert and left barely a dry eye in the house as the group honored Bennington's memory.

Other artists were in the building, too — including Blink-182, Machine Gun Kelly, System of a Down, and No Doubt — but Shinoda and Linkin Park stole the show with their powerful tribute and lasting legacy.

Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda Updates Fans Following Chester Bennington's Suicide With A Warning To Watch Out For 'Scumbag Bootleggers'

Linkin Park members are offering resources to those struggling with the same demons as Chester Bennington.

A week after the frontman died by suicide via hanging, bandmate Mike Shinoda thanked fans for respecting the band's privacy.

The performer offered suggestions to fans hoping to celebrate the lead singer's life in a moving Instagram post, and also provided resources to those who are struggling with suicidal thoughts of their own.

The musician shared multiple links on Friday, writing:

"One week. Feels like forever. I'm here for a couple updates… 1.) If you need a (local) place to celebrate Chester, look to tiny.cc/lpmemorial and all the amazing fan sites I've previously mentioned. 2.) If you're having suicidal thoughts, go to chester.linkinpark.com"

Shinoda also cautioned those planning to "buy merch in honor of Chester," telling fans to keep a lookout for "scumbag bootleggers" trying to make money off of the singer's passing. He added:

Will Linkin Park Tour Continue After Chester Bennington's Suicide?

UPDATE 5:57 P.M. EST: Linkin Park has officially decided to cancel their tour following Chester Bennington's suicide, according to TMZ. Live Nation will refund tickets.


Members of Linkin Park were shocked by the death of their frontman, Chester Bennington.

As you've likely heard, the 41-year-old singer was found dead in his home on Thursday after committing suicide by hanging.

In light of the tragedy, the band is faced with the hard decision to cancel or move forward with their upcoming One More Light world tour, which (as of now) is still scheduled to begin next week in Mansfield, Massachusetts.

TMZ reports Rob Bourdon, Brad Delson, Mike Shinoda, Dave Farrell, and Joe Hahn are expected to reach some sort of decision soon as venues are fielding calls from concerned ticket holders.

We can only imagine this is an incredibly overwhelming time for the guys. Stay tuned.

Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda Revealed Back In May How Devastated Chester Bennington Was By Chris Cornell's Suicide

This hit him harder than anyone realized.

As we reported, Linkin Park's front man Chester Bennington was found dead on Thursday after killing himself via hanging. The Numb singer's suicide was not only committed almost exactly the same way as Chris Cornell's, but it was also what would have been his close friend's 53rd birthday.

In a Radio.com interview with Bennington's band mate Mike Shinoda shortly after the passing of Cornell, the musician described Chester's powerful reaction to the Soundgarden artist's passing.

Shinoda said in May that Cornell's death hit Bennington, who sang Hallelujah at Chris' funeral, pretty hard.
