ESPN Airing 8 New Documentaries This Fall

ESPN

Beginning on September 27th, ESPN will air 8 new documentaries every Tuesday from prominent directors that include Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me) and Alex Gibney (Taxi To The Dark Side).

Stories range from the Spurlock's The Dotted Line, which is an in-depth look at the competitive world of sports agents to Renee, the story of transgendered tennis player Renee Richards, so there is definitely something for everyone!

Other films include Jeff Feuerzeig's The Real Rocky (on boxer Chuck Wepner), Steve Michaels' Charismatic (on the tragic end for horse racing's unlikely triple crown candidate in 1999), and Gibney's Catching Hell, which depicts the aftermath of Cubs fan Steve Bartman's interference with a foul ball that cost the team its first World Series since 1945.

In a similar innitiative, ESPN is also launching a 4-part docuseries, Rise Up, on September 13 that focuses on the effect that rebuilding athletic facilities had on four high schools and their communities.

With such outstanding filmmakers involved, we think ESPN will attract more than just sports fans this fall!

Town Changes Its Name To Title Of New Morgan Spurlock Doc

town names itself after morgan spurlocks new movie

What will come next? A town called Scream 4???

Starting at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, the town of Altoona, Pennsylvania will change its name to POM Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold for 60 days!

The city's goal with the name change is to help documentarian Morgan Spurlock make a point about "the proliferation of advertising in American life."

Looks like this will be a win-win situation for both Morgan and the town! While this name change will help Spurlock prove a point AND give him some seriously creative advertising for his own film, the town itself will make $25,000, which will go to their police department.

Good luck, Morgan! We wish U all the best with this film, and we hope the city of Altoona has a lovely 60 days with their new name! Ha!

Do U think naming a city after his movie is an effective message by Morgan Spurlock?

Sony Pictures Classics Eyes The Rights To New Morgan Spurlock Doc.

sony-pictures-classics-wants-to-acquire-new-morgan-spurlock-documentary

This guy always does inneresting work, and this sounds like no exception!

Sony Pictures Classics is reportedly attempting to secure the domestic rights to Morgan Spurlock's new documentary, The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, which focuses on the filmmaker as he tries to get companies and brands to sponsor his movie, and is set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival!

He explains the film as:

"Everywhere you look it seems like something's being brought to you by some sponsor or some corporation. So we said, 'Why not make a doc that looks at that and have the brands actually pay for it?'"

Sounds fascinating!

We LOVED Supersize Me and Where In The World Is Osama Bin Laden?, so hopefully this new one will follow suit, and get picked up for distribution so everyone else can see it!

Best of luck!
