Keeping Your Nasal Passages Clear While Boxing

If you don't want your teeth knocked out in the boxing ring, you need a mouthguard, which means you'll be breathing through your nose. A FitPerez reader name Gregory is having trouble keeping his nasal passages clear and wrote boxer Alex Brenes for advice, asking:
Alex,
This is gross, so I am sorry, but I would like to know what boxers use to help keep nasal passages clear, while breathing through their noses. My nose gets full of mucus!
According to Alex:
Gregory,
The question is not gross. It's actually a totally normal question, but the answer is gross. You need to swallow it. If you are fighting/sparring and you are constantly getting hit in the face (sinuses) and you blow your nose, your face may swell up, so clean it with a towel in between rounds (without blowing). Or wipe it on your opponent's shirt, that's what I use to do. Just kidding (maybe)! Hit 'em Greg!!!
