ryan lochte supports muscular dystrophy

Ryan Lochte is such an inspiration!

While the Olympian isn't swimming, he's visiting Capitol Hill to talk about the MD-CARE Act with senators in Washington, D.C. and is also showing his support for the Muscular Dystrophy research.

Lochte is currently the spokesperson for Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy, and because he lost someone close to him from this illness, he takes his spokesman duties seriously.

Paris Hilton Literally Saved A Man's Life

This is absolutely incredible!

A young man with muscular dystrophy, Mike Oliveri, needs about $5,000 a month just for his medication and for caretakers.

He is barely surviving. And that money doesn't even factor in food.

One night, he randomly met Paris Hilton in a club and they became friends.

She later randomly sent him $5,000!

So he posted a video thank you to Paris, because he wanted people to know the real her, not the her the media tends to try and show.

Check out the video above to hear his amazing story about how Paris Hilton literally saved his life.

Jerry Lewis Cancels Charity Gigs Due To Illness

Jerry Lewis

Fortunately, it's nothing too serious.

After pulling out of a charity show last Friday due to hospitalization for fatigue, comedian Jerry Lewis has been forced to cancel a few more gigs this week.

Docters have ordered the overworked and exhausted star to rest in hopes of recuperating for a show on Thursday in front of 1,300 fans in Melbourne, Australia that will raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation.

David Jack, CEO of the foundation, commented on Jerry's health, saying:

"When Jerry lands he goes at it 110 per cent… Understandably, Jerry's health is our primary concern throughout this period and we want to ensure he's able to travel home healthy… That's very sad for Jerry because he's so passionate and committed to Muscular Dystrophy."

Jerry may be tired, but he hasn't completely exhausted his funny bones, as Jack added:

"He wanted me to give a very important message just to quash any rumours: 'I'm not pregnant'."

LOLz!

Feel better, Jerry! We hope you're able to perform Thursday to raise money for such a good cause.

Jerry Lewis Retires As Host Of Muscular Dystrophy Association Telethon

Jerry Lewis will no longer be the face of the annual Muscular Dystrophy Association Labor Day Telethon.

He released a statement saying:

“As a labor of love, I’ve hosted the annual Telethon since 1966, and I’ll be making my final appearance on the show this year by performing my signature song, ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone.’ I’ll continue to serve MDA as its National Chairman – as I’ve done since the early 1950′s. I’ll never desert MDA and my kids.”

According to the association, Lewis has dedicated over 900 hours of himself to the organization over the years.

The new hosts will be Nigel Lythgoe, Alison Sweeney, Nancy O’Dell, and Jann Carl.

Jerry will be missed, and we truly appreciate his dedication to the cause!

Viagra To Help Treat Muscular Dystrophy????

vap080409061241.jpg

You wouldn't think young boys would be given Viagra….

However, it has recently been found that the little blue pill can actually be a cure for adolescent boys with early stages of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).

DMD is a muscle-wasting disease that usually affects young boys. It causes muscle weakness and loss, usually confining patients to a wheelchair by age ten. Most don’t live past 30.

A study on mice found that Viagra was able to normalize abnormal heart function within a few days.

Eventually researchers would like to test this Viagra treatment on younger boys aged 8 to 12 who do not yet show significant heart problems.

Viagra is already FDA approved, under the name Ravatio, to treat pulmonary hypertension. It has been used by doctors for many circulation and heart function issues as well.

Who would have thought Viagra could help save more than sex lives!
