soulja boy lawsuit

Here's the crazy celebrity lawsuit of the day!!!

According to Soulja Boy, his former manager, Philip Ransom, took advantage of his fragile 16-year-old mind when he "coerced" him into signing contracts "contrary to industry standard."

These contracts give the record label he worked with 50% and Ransom 5% of any music profits he'll ever make on the songs he recorded under said management.

Music Piracy Down After Limewire Shutdown

LimeWire Shutdown Leads To Drop In Piracy

After the shutdown of the popular P2P music/file sharing program Limewire, the NPD Group is reporting a drop in overall piracy going on!

Here are some deets:

Filesharing activity fell from 12% of U.S. Internet users in the third quarter of last year-the last quarter the service was active-to 9% in the fourth quarter after the service was shut down.

NPD estimates that's 12 million more people downloading music illegally then there are today. In that same time, NPD says the average number of music files downloaded from P2P services fell from 35 tracks per user to 18.

Just the announcement of the impending lawsuit against the program caused users to abandon the ship, dropping the amount from 56% to 32%. Quite the fall!

As you'd expect, this wasn't the only way to get illegal music out there, so NPD will be watching to see if other ways spike in activity.

Limewire had been around for so long that its shut down has had a huge effect!

Pret-ty inneresting!

How do U feel about music piracy and the sinking of the Limewire Pirate Ship??

Jon Bon Jovi Blames Steve Jobs For Killing The Music Industry!

jon-bon-jovi-accuses-steve-jobs-of-killing-the-music-industry.jpg

Those are some harsh words!

Jon Bon Jovi is saddened by the fact that kids no longer enjoy the "magical" experience of buying records. In fact, he goes so far as blaming the death of the music industry on Mr. iTunes himself, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.

Bon Jovi says:

"Kids today have missed the whole experience of putting the headphones on, turning it up to 10, holding the jacket, closing their eyes and getting lost in an album; and the beauty of taking your allowance money and making a decision based on the jacket, not knowing what the record sounded like, and looking at a couple of still pictures and imagining it.

God, it was a magical, magical time. I hate to sound like an old man now, but I am, and you mark my words, in a generation from now people are going to say: 'What happened?'. Steve Jobs is personally responsible for killing the music business."

Whoa, whoa, whoa.

Okay, so maybe the introduction of digital downloads may have been a big blow to the music industry and sure, who doesn't miss going to the record store and picking up your favorite band's record or CD?

But, Jon needs to remember that technology is forever evolving. Maybe the music industry just needs to catch up to technology??
