We haven't called the Oscars "the Academy Awards" in a looonngggg time, but the most prestigious awards show of the season has now officially changed its name!

Just four days before funny man Seth MacFarlane takes over the Dolby Theater, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has decided to rebrand and break away from the expected, traditional title.

It looks like Hedi Slimane is getting his wish because in the next few months Yves Saint Laurent will be going by Saint Laurent Paris.

The name change is the first of many changes under Slimane's "re-branding" plan for the fashion house formerly known as Yves Saint Laurent, but they're keeping the rest on the DL for now.

Oddly enough the one thing that won't be changing is the YSL logo, which makes absolutely zero sense.

Guess Slimane wants to phase the 'Y' out slowly, or something like that.

Yesterday, we speculated on WHY Kanye West suddenly changed the name of his recent single Theraflu to Way Too Cold over the weekend, thinking pressure from the medicine company forced 'Ye's hand.

NOPE!

In fact, Novartis - the people behind Theraflu - didn't give two ships about the homage to their severe cold remedy, stating:

A couple of weeks ago, Kanye West released Theraflu, which not only ignited the Kimye’ romance we so voraciously devour, but also sparked backlash from the actual producers of the medicine.

They were NOT happy with the unauthorized use of their product’s name.

Detroit reporter Jason Carr may think it's much more than an coincidence.

Known as the stomping grounds of Eminem, 8 Mile is a well known part of Detroit.

Now, a motel in 8 Mile has changed its name and it's causing quite a stir! The original name was the American Motel and it has now changed to M-N-M motel.

Unfortunately, the locals around the motel have no idea what the reporter is talking about.

Out with the old and in with the new is Liz Clairborne's motto for 2012.

Starting in May, the company will ditch their name of 36 years and go by Fifth & Pacific. Claiborne CEO William L. McComb says the new name is a reflection of the company's New York and Los Angeles roots.

Along with the name change, Claiborne will change their stock ticker from LIZ to FNP in mid-May.
