Native British Dogs Seeing A Comeback In England!

british-dogs-seeing-comeback-in-england-web.jpg

Now this is the sort of national pride we can get behind!!!

Dogs native to the British Isles are seeing a resurgence in popularity as more and more dog owners are switching back to the breeds.

Recently, dog owners had shunned native breeds for more exotic pets, like a Siberian husky or a chihuahua.

Now, English setters, English toy terriers, and Sussex spaniels have all seen significant increases in registration!

Unfortunately, the bump has not been seen in all of Britain's native pooches. The otterhound and Skye terrier are still in decline and these two breeds are even at risk for extinction!

NOOOOOO…that won't do at all!!!!

Currently, the Labrador Retriever is the most popular breed in England.

Let's get the otterhound and Skye terrier breeds up there too!

Baby Red Panda Born At Belgian Zoo

Pop the bubbly!

A brand new baby Red Panda was just born at Zoo Planckendael in Belgium!

It's their first Red Panda which is great for the zoo but also great for the species because the Red Panda, native to Nepal, is listed as a vulnerable species.

It's vulnerable mainly because its habitat is being destroyed and they are often caught and killed for their fur.

Which is just wrong and all sorts of awful!

How could you want to do anything other than just cuddle one of these little guys?

Congrats on the new baby!

Monkey Mom Mix Up

An unlikely (but soopa adorbz) family!

A six-month-old baboon and a three-month-old bushbaby have become totally inseparable in the animal shelter in Nairobi were they live.

The baboon has taken to caring for the bushbaby (which are small, nocturnal primates native to continental Africa) much like a mother - and it's baffling experts.

This kind of relationship between the animals is totally unheard of.

Richard Branson Gives Lemurs A Private Island

lemur for a day

Ugh, don't be so dramatic.

Billionaire Richard Branson says he wants to use one of his private Caribbean islands (ya know, cause he has plenty of others) to help save an endangered species of dramatic African primate.

The British entrepreneur plans to introduce lemurs to the undeveloped Moskito Island in the British Virgin Islands.

Moneybags says that he hopes to create a thriving population to help make up for the loss of their native habitat on the island of Madagascar.

Branson said Monday that he hopes to bring the first group of about 30 from zoos in the coming weeks.

He calls it a radical idea and says he will try to address concerns of critics who fear the plan will hurt native lizard and bird populations.

The endangered bloggers could use and an island too, Richard!

The Xolo - America's Newest Breed Of Dog

Xolo - New Breed

That's one cool looking pooch!

The latest additions to the American Kennel Club (AKC)'s official list of dog breeds is perhaps one of the most rare and exotic of them all (even if just in name): the Xoloitzcuintli (SHOW-low-eats-QUEENT-lee), or for short, Xolo.

The Xolo originates from Mexico, dating as far back as 3,000 years ago. The Aztec had considered the Xolo a sacred dog, with the power to heal and guide the deceased safely to the underworld.

And it is said that Christopher Columbus had written about the breed in his field journal, commenting on their unique look.

The breed has also long been the centerpiece of Mexican artwork, including that of Frida Kahlo, most likely due to its distinguished physical traits.

Because of its shape and disposition, the Xolo has often been mistaken for a Chihuahua, another breed native to Mexico.

Although this new interest has increased the world population to 30,000, there are currently fewer than 1,000 of them in the U.S.

But let's try to keep this Xolo on the DL.

We don't want Paris Hilton stuffing one of these cuties in her purse!
