We bet moms are really excited about this one!
A few months ago, we mentioned that Nickelodeon was introducing a new primetime comedy block that was aimed at moms.
Well, now we're getting more details about the new block, which will be called "NickMom" and what kind of series we can expect to see between the 9 PM and 1 AM slot.
The network picked up 26 episodes of a new comedy series called NickMom Night Out and will air in primetime on Nick Jr.
They also announced that they have more than 50 projects in development that will span across TV and digital outlets. Some include work from stand-up comedian and actress Caroline Rhea and actor and author Annabelle Gurwitch.
This is what the senior VP has to say about the new comedy block for mommies:
Nick Jr. is Nickelodeon's sister channel, and contains original programming aimed at 2-6 year olds. But NOW, they're including a primetime programming block, which will target adults, specifically moms.
Between 9 PM to 1 AM nightly, Nick Jr. will feature a mix of original humor-based programming that will include talk shows, docu-series, stand-up and sketch comedy, hidden camera and game shows, just for moms!
The NickMom website says:
Sorry, all of you Dynasty re-run addicts! It's time to say good-bye!
Anne Sweeney, co-chair of Disney Media Networks and president of Disney/ABC Television Group, announced:
"The decision to ultimately transition SoapNet to accomplish this was not arrived at lightly. SoapNet was created in 2000 to give daytime viewers the ability to watch time-shifted soaps, before multi-platform viewing and DVRs were part of our vocabulary. But today, as technology and our businesses evolve, it makes more sense to align this distribution with a preschool channel that builds on the core strengths of our company."
We wonder how this new channel will fare against the already established PBS Kids and Nick, Jr.!
What do U think?? Is Disney making a smart move replacing their soaps with more children's programming??
