Let us tell you a story:

On one of the first days of shooting the third season, in a very clever directorial move, The Vampire Diaries' assistant director told Ian Somerhalder to go to the props department. There the props master was instructed to give Ian some big ole' elephant ears.

The purpose? To get a genuine reaction from costar Nina Debrov during a scene where his character surprises her with his nakie body.

You see, rumor has it she's seen him in the nude plenty already, but if he had elephant ears hangin' with his junk, BAM! Television magic! And according to Smolderhalder, it worked like a charm!!! LOLZ!

So when season three premieres tonight and you watch that scene, just think about Ian and his BIIIIIG elephant ears!!!
