Kids Who Are Physically Fit Might Be Learning More!

kids fitness physical learning activity

It's weird to think that everyone's idea of the "jock" being less than brilliant could be just as fictitious as we all secretly believed it to be!

According to a new study, it looks like kids who are more physically fit are able to absorb more information and learn more things in school!

We'd say that's a win-win!

The study from the American College of Sports Medicine, found that fourth- and fifth-grade students who ran around and otherwise exercised vigorously for at least 10 minutes before a math test did muuuuuuch better than those who sat quietly before taking it!

Here's the super interesting part: the better the fitness, the higher the scores. Meaning, body size had almost NO role. Students who were overweight but relatively fit did way better than lighter, less-fit children!

What this means is this, according to the authors of the study:

We might still have a long way to go, but it sounds like we're on the right track!

According to a new study, we're hearing that our youth is eating better and staying more active in the face of a crazy obesity problem this nation has! Over the last decade, they've started getting slightly more exercise and reduced their television watching!

The thing is, this new spike in activity seems to be only leveling off the obesity rate, not declining it.

Here's what the study's authors said:

Bucket-Sized Drinks ALLOWED In New York City Once Again!

new york city drink size ban lifted restaurants businesses

We get it! We get what the goal was, it was just a bad idea!

You don't interfere with peoples' lives, trying to force them to get healthy! It's a personal decision, and if someone wants to go to town on a 128oz Dr. Pepper after a hard day's work ON THEIR CHEAT DAY, they should be allowed to in New York City!!

This is why INCENTIVES will always be better than a BAN! And the difference between this and smoking, for those of you with that in their mind, is that smoking hurts those around you as well — drinking a giant soda won't!

New York restaurants can continue selling large sugary drinks because an appeals court recognized that a lower court ruling was dead on! That ruling was that city's restrictions are "arbitrary and capricious," which is a very nice way of putting it!

Then they added that the city's Board of Health "failed to act within the bounds of its lawfully delegated authority" and things got a little bit frosty! Like an ice-cold 256oz Squirt! LOLz!

In essence, it was declared the regulation was a violation of the principle of separation of powers doctrine!

Mayor Michael Bloomberg, of course, disagreed with the decision because nobody in politics can EVER admit they're wrong! We're pretty sure they have to swear an oath to do so. Don't quote us on that though! Ha!

Here's what Ol' Bloomers had to say:

So interesting!

Scientists believe that babies born via Cesarean section have a different set of microbes in their digestive tract than those born from the vagina.

Previously, scientists have linked C section born babies with a higher risk of asthma, diabetes, and obesity - but they weren't sure why.

Now they believe that elevated risk may be due to

He just keeps digging himself deeper!

Rex Reed went on a New York radio show this week to defend himself against the backlash he created by poking fun at Melissa McCarthy's weight in the review of her new film with Jason Bateman, Identity Theft!

Everyone from Jenny McCarthy to fitness guru Jillian Michaels had homegurl's back since the film critic's nasty, personal tirade! We're THRILLED so many people rush to her defense!

Rex, for his part, wants the world to know he doesn't think obesity is a laughing matter.

The View Talks Proposed Obesity Tax!

Filed under: TV NewsPolitikFoodHealthObeseMelissa Joan HartNutrition

The ladies of The View got fired up, as they so often do, over a sensitive issue: sin taxes.

These "sin taxes" are basically taxes on things like sugary soft drinks that are meant to discourage people from buying them.

The whole idea is that obese people tend to buy less healthy foods and their obesity racks up billions of dollars in healthcare.

Melissa Joan Hart was there as a guest host but barely got a word in because things started to get a little heated.

The main problem is that some of the more unhealthy foods are actually way cheaper than the healthy stuff.

So a family on a budget could really run into some trouble with these proposed taxes.

Check out the video (above) to hear the ladies of The View tackle sin taxes.
