While most of Jay-Z's Samsung commercials are mostly just long, putting the ZZZ in Jay-Z, and don't really reveal much of his upcoming album, Magna Carta Holy Grail, the ad entitled Oceans gives a pretty inneresting insight into Jay-Z's creative process.

Ch-ch-check it out above!

The commercial deals with the inspiration for his upcoming single Oceans, which he collaborated on with (you guessed it) the Little Mermaid Frank Ocean. In the room with artists Rick Rubin, Swizz Beats, Timbaland, and Pharrell, Jay-Z said the following:

The world's oceans are overfished, heavily polluted and increasingly warming.

None of these are good for the earth, climate change or any of earth's inhabitants. (That means people too).

Jellyfish Are Taking Over The Oceans

jellyfish

This sounds like a line in a sci-fi movie.

However, it is somewhat true. As the acidity of the world's oceans rises, it kills off predators. This allows jellyfish to thrive!

This acidity is due to the overlooked effect of burning fossil fuels. Higher levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere doesn’t just trigger climate change but can make the oceans more acid.

It turns out, lucky for them, jellyfish are immune to the effects of acidification. This allows them to survive while many other creatures are not.

Yikes! This is kind of creepy!!

Urgent Actions Called For At UN Biodiversity Meeting

united nations develops plan for nature preservation

The United Nations met in Japan to discuss biodiversity, and the end result of their meeting was a 10-year plan to preserve nature.

Here's what Jim Leape, director-general of WWF International had to say about the plan:

"This agreement reaffirms the fundamental need to conserve nature as the very foundation of our economy and our society."

More from Leape:

"Governments have sent a strong message that protecting the health of the planet has a place in international politics, and countries are ready to join forces to save life on Earth."

The goal for the 10-year plan will be to protect 17% of Earth's land surface, and 10% of oceans by 2020.

Some opposition to this plan includes complaints by conservation scientists who don't think that the plan is ambitious enough, and poor countries that claim they don't have resources necessary to achieve these goals.

Based on this plan, developed nations will have until 2012 to come up with plans to raise necessary funds to implement the 10 year preservation plan.

We're glad to see measures being taken to preserve nature! We hope this plan works out!
