New U.K. Music Chart Rules Will Kick Out Several Ed Sheeran & Drake Songs!

no title

Starting next week, Ed Sheeran and Drake are getting kicked right off the U.K. singles charts!

The Official Charts Company is implementing new rules next week that will keep the consistent hitmakers from racking up a dozen simultaneous Top 100 songs.

First, each artist is only allowed THREE songs on the Official Singles Chart — the three most popular — no matter how well the rest are doing.

Second, any track that has already been on the charts for 10 weeks AND has declined in sales for three will get half as much credit for streams — meaning actual sales of physical singles will carry more weight. OCC exec Martin Talbot explained:

"It's tougher than ever for new music and developing artists to break through, and this is us doing our bit… This is about injecting energy back into the chart."

How do our Perezcious U.K. readers feel about this change?? Unfair to Teddy? Fair to new artists??

We'll see our first U.K. singles chart with the new rules on July 7!
