emma stone reveals she had panic attacks in her childhood

When it comes to Hollywood, there aren't many actresses that are cooler and more laid back than Emma Stone!

But believe it or not, that wasn't always the case!

In a recent interview, Emma talked a little bit about her childhood before she broke into showbiz, and she reveals that back in the day she used to be a nervous wreck!

She says:

"My mother started taking me to acting classes because she thought it would help me focus my energies. I was this really anxious kid in grad school. I had my first panic attack when I was eight years old. I don't know why, but as a kid I worried about things like our house burning down, and I'd wring my hands all the time. So my parents took me to a therapist. While I was figuring things out, something happened where I just thought, okay, all right, I want to act."

We're definitely glad to hear Emma has put her panic-filled days behind her, and it almost sounds like getting through it helped her realize acting was the best path for her to follow!

Turns out she was right!

Besides, it sounds like being a wildly successful movie star AND dating Spider Man might be two constant things that could be helping her to stay calm these days.

Sounds like a pretty sweet gig if you ask us!

Emma Stone Used To Suffer From Panic Attacks

Emma Stone Used To Suffer From Panic Attacks

As a kid, Emma Stone wasn’t just scared of monsters under her bed… she was sort of scared of everything.

Said Emma:

"I was in therapy. From 8 to 10, I was borderline agoraphobic. I could not leave my mom's side. I don't really have panic attacks anymore, but I had really bad anxiety. There was a lot of fear, but [coming to Hollywood] was also very exciting."

Despite her panic attacks, Emma built up the courage to move to Hollywood at age 14. She credits her sister Krista for giving her the courage.

"She is the greatest person on earth. She always helps me deal with things as they happen instead of planning them all out ahead of time. But that's one of 600 billion pieces of advice she's given me."

So inspiring! We love Emma!

Carrie Underwood Overcomes Panic Attacks

While Carrie Underwood may seem flawless, she’ll be the first to admit that she’s not perfect. In high school, Carrie suffered panic attacks.

She said that it was especially problematic while doing Christmas shopping, which “seemed to be [her] worst nightmare.”

"I'm a big personal space person. You know, if you go to the restroom, you use the stall that's not near anybody. Or if you're in the gym, you go to the treadmill where there's space in between you. And it seemed like in crowded situations like [Christmas shopping areas], people would just completely violate your personal space."

Carrie also expressed her difficulty dealing with the hordes of fans that almost constantly surround her, but says she has overcome that problem.

Thank God for that!

Carrie also shared her five-step plan for maintaining both mental and physical health.

1. Work out. "Cardio makes me feel good, it makes me happy. It really makes a noticeable difference."

2. Eat healthy. "I'm not a huge pill taker, because I feel like our bodies are designed to take what we need out of food. So I don't want to make my body deficient and make it depend on what I take. I'd rather eat and drink things that are good for me."

3. Keep washing. "I'd rather take preventive measures than get sick and try to battle things off. So I do wash my hands quite a bit."

4. Get some rest. "I enjoy naps but only on days off, because I can take, like, a three-hour one. I'll take a nap if it's just a total rainy day off and there's nothing you can do anyway."

5. Give back. "People think, 'I don't have time to volunteer,' but there are little things you can do to make the world better and raise awareness, whatever your passion is. Like if you go to facebook.com/Pedigree, you can become a fan, and they'll donate a bowl of food to a shelter dog. That's a free meal, and it took 30 seconds of your life."
