It's been nearly a year since we last heard about this, and we're STILL very excited!
Back in Sept '10, we heard that Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken was collaborating with Harvey Fierstein on a stage musical version of Newsies.
As a reminder, the Christian Bale-starring movie came out in 1992, and it "tells the story of child newspaper sellers in turn-of-the-century New York who go on strike."
Now, Harvey has opened up about the Newsies stage musical, and how he's going to make it great - by adding more LOVE!
Here's what Harvey had to say about it:
"In a musical, there's an old rule: You must follow the love story. It gives the audience somewhere to go and someplace to rest their hearts."
We trust ya, Harvey! If you think that the stage version of Newsies needs more love, then we say bring it on!
The musical debuts on Sept. 15 at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, NJ, and the official opening is scheduled for Sept. 25!
Loyal Newsies fans will be pleased to learn that songs from the film version including Santa Fe, The World Will Know, Carrying the Banner, Seize the Day, and King of New York will be featured in the new stage version.
We seriously CANNOT wait for this! Starting Sept. 15, the town of Millburn is gonna be SWARMING with Newsies fans!!! Ha!
Are U excited for the Newsies stage musical? Will U make the trek to New Jersey to see it? (if you don't already live there that is…)
