NBC Execs Try In Vain To Justify Picking Donald Trump To Host Saturday Night Live — See Their 'Trumped' Up Logic!

no title

NBC made quite the spectacle last summer when it cut all business ties with Donald Trump, citing the GOP front runner's "derogatory statements" about Mexican immigrants didn't jive with their company values.

But just a few months later, the presidential hopeful was hosting Saturday Night Live and jesting with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show!

This seemingly hypocritical business move caused the veteran network to get blasted with questions on Wednesday at the Television Critics Association's press tour!

According to NBC entertainment chair Robert Greenblatt, the network didn't actually think Trump would last in the presidential race! He said:

Looks Like NBC Wasn't Having The Best Time Ever Because It Cancelled The Variety Show!

Filed under: TV NewsNeil Patrick Harris

The show only aired eight episodes.

Even though Neil Patrick Harris might have been having the Best Time Ever hosting the new variety series, it still wasn't enough to save the show.

On Tuesday, NBC announced that it has cancelled BTE after airing only eight episodes.

The live, hour-long production often involved silly stunts, perfect pranks, and star-studded appearances — remember that time Britney Spears pulled a fast one on her bodyguards?

Sources say that NPH and network execs were hesitant about ending the show, but it was pretty expensive to produce and took a lot of time and energy from the famous father.

The network's late-night president Paul Telegdy issued a statement about the cancellation, telling Variety:

"We are extremely proud of the work Neil and the producers did on Best Time Ever. People rewarded us for taking the risk of trying something different. It was an incredibly complicated and sophisticated form of television to put on a live show on a weekly basis. We're proud of Neil for giving it his all and we have steely resolve to work together on something new."

Now, NBC is pulling the plug on the program but NOT on its relationship with the blonde babe!

While the big wigs had decided that it wasn't worth signing on for a completely revamped season, they are still planning another project with the How I Met Your Mother alum.

We're very curious to see what they have in store for the talented star.

For the three Donald Trump fans in the universe, you can sleep soundly tonight!!

Not only is The Celebrity Apprentice set to be picked up for next season, but the original version of the reality show, with fourteen everyday contestants, already has a place in the fall line-up!!

VP of alternative programming for NBC, Paul Telegdy, says:

"The Apprentice is a proven brand, and we believe its return is more relevant than ever since it will provide new hope for many Americans struggling in this difficult job market."

Trump was also surprisingly receptive when asked if he would recruit Sarah Palin as a contestant!

BARF. But hey, we suppose it would make for good ratings.
