Keith Olbermann Opens Up About Leaving MSNBC And Joining Current TV

Filed under: TV NewsMedia MinuteBusiness Blitz

keith olbermann on leaving msnbc and joining current tv

Now that Keith Olbermann has his new show Countdown and is bringing together his contributors, he seems to be in a pret-ty secure position, and has finally decided to open up about leaving MSNBC and joining Current TV

Here are a couple of the reasons that Olbermann gives for joining Current TV:

- He got a pay raise from $7 million to $10 million/year
- He has has been named chief news officer for Current TV, and has been given an equity stake in the network

And here's more from Olbermann on his move from MSNBC to Current TV:

"It's been fascinating, to see the assumption that this is some sort of bizarre move for me. I have achieved what I wanted to achieve. I'm better off at some sort of independent place where they not only like what I produce but also trust me to be the one to produce it."

And here's Olbermann on how he got into MAJOR TROUBLE at NBC by gossiping about Jeff Zucker during the Comcast merger:

"There was a lot of speculation about what would happen. One surprisingly accurate bit of speculation on every floor of the building was, 'I betcha they don't keep Jeff.' And apparently he heard that I had said this. I was there and I was a convenient punching bag and everybody would believe everything they said about me. And so off I went."

Sorry to hear about the drama, but def sounds like Keith's move from MSNBC to Current TV was a positive one in quite a few ways. More money, more power, AND more creative freedom? Sounds good to us!

What do U think about Keith's reasons for moving to Current TV after MSNBC? Would U do the same thing?

Jersey Shore Cast Gets Six-Figure Pay Raise For Season 4!!

Holy shizballs!

Is this possible???

The Jersey Shore cast reportedly got a huge, and we mean HUGE, pay raise to film season 4 of their beloved MTV show.

Not only do they get to film in beautiful Italy, but they're also getting around $100,000 an episode!!

Excuse us while we pick our jaws up from the floor.

And that's nothing compared to the amount they're getting from appearances, product endorsements, and so much more.

The Situation's current annual income is said to be around $5 million. That's sure to double, maybe even triple, by the end of 2011.

Wowsa.

Who'd ever thought that this group of guidos and guidettes would become some of TV's highest paid stars?

It blows our minds.

So what do U think? Does the JS cast deserve to get this kind of dough??

It Pays To Work At The White House

federal-staff-gets-pay-rais.jpg

In the past five years, the amount of federal workers earning $150,000 has upped tenfold. And despite the recession, it has doubled since President Obama took office.

We had no idea our budget was fit for pay raises!

Many fiscally conservative Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives caught wind of the situation last week and they are challenging the president's plan to give a 1.4% across-the-board pay raise to 2.1 million federal workers.

"It's stunning when you see what's happened to federal compensation," said Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah. "Every metric shows we're heading in the wrong direction."

Although National Treasury Employees Union President Colleen Kelley believes that the raise "is a modest amount and should be implemented" so salaries can compete with the private sector.

Findings reveal that top-paid staff has been given every more across every department and agency. In 2005, the Defense Department had nine civilians earning $170,000 or more but when Obama took office it escalated to 214. And this past June, it rose to 994.

It is true that government workers earn less than private workers or similar jobs, but we don't think Congress needs a pay raise. They earn $174,000, up from $141,300 in 2000.

If they are gonna make that kinda $$$$, they should probably do something to earn it!

Mr. Schue Thinks His Hair Deserves A Paycheck, Too!

And for the amount of abuse it takes at the hands of Sue Sylvester, we tend to want to to agree with him!

Glee's Matthew Morrison thinks that seeing how his lucious locks have brought him just about as much notoriety as his vocal talents on the smash series, it's only fair that he get a pay raise!

He explains:

“How do I feel about the jokes about my hair? It doesn’t bother me, but I do feel I should be paid more money because my hair is another character! As people once asked for a Rachel from Friends haircut, perhaps they’ll soon be asking for a ‘Schuester!’ My anonymity has gone. I can’t walk five feet without being stopped for a picture. But you have to embrace it. You work this hard and hope for something like this to come along, so you can’t push it away when it happens. But I am buying a lot more hats now! I’m also walking around a lot in clear glasses — sunglasses make it look like you’re trying too hard!”

Fair enough!

How about this? A bonus for every episode where his hair is attacked or referenced in a negative light, and a pay cut every time he raps!

Perfect deal, right??
