Will Hobbit Drama Ever Get Resolved???

hobbit drama continues between actors and producers

Looks like The Hobbit crew is setting up a meeting to work out their issues, so they can hopefully get moving on this movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, here's who will be attending the meeting:

That meeting, between the Actors Equity NZ and its parent Australia’s Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance, and the producers' guild, the Screen Production and Development Agency — initially requested by SPADA on October 4 — will include NZ economic development minister Gerry Brownlee, director of the Actors’ Equity Section of the MEAA Australia Simon Whipp and SPADA CEO Penelope Borland, along with other members of SPADA and Equity.

Here's what Penelope Borland of SPADA had to say about the meeting:

She hopes the meeting “will resolve the uncertainty and confusion around the engagement of actors in New Zealand."

Hopefully by the end of the meeting, they will be able to facilitate "…the removal of the international boycott on 'The Hobbit, enabling it to be filmed in New Zealand." We want to see this movie!!!

They need to accomplish the goal before Warner Bros and MGM will give them the greenlight on the film.

Borland has emphasized the urgency of the Thursday meeting, and she's even admitted that if things don't get worked out, they could lose the entire $500 million, 2-picture Hobbit production. We CANNOT let that happen!

Given the urgency of this meeting, it's troubling to hear that NZ Equity is calling for a separate meeting with the Hobbit producers, which SPADA takes issue with. SPADA feels that they should be the only body through which actors, agents, and unions go through to negotiate guidelines for any work.

All we know is in a perfect world we'd love to see this resolved once and for all on Thursday.

Here's an argument posted by Philippa Boyens, a co-producer on The Hobbit:

“Three Foot Seven is working with actors’ representatives, namely their agents, to ensure that the terms and conditions for all actors working on 'The Hobbit' are fair and equitable and that the actors engaged to work on the films are happy with their contracts. The agents involved are doing an extremely good job of protecting their clients’ interests."

More from Boyens:

“The filmmakers involved in this production are working as hard as they can to save the jobs of the New Zealanders put at risk by the actions of NZ Equity and are doing everything they can to keep the production from being moved off-shore."

Here's what MEAA's Simon Whipp had to say about Thursday's meeting:

“We believe discussing the terms and conditions for the engagement of performers with the producers in a calm and reasonable manner will be more productive. Media speculation will only serve the interests of those who seek to lure the production from New Zealand."

We truly hope that all of the people represented by the various acronyms we've referenced will work out their issues for the greater good: making an awesome Hobbit movie!!!!!!

Do U think everyone will be able to work out their issues to get this movie going?
