University Medical Center Staffers Fired For Inappropriately Accessing Shooting Victims' Medical Records
As if this whole situation needed to get any sadder.
Three clinical support staff members and a contracted nurse at University Medical Center in Tuscon, AZ, were fired recently after it was discovered that they had accessed the confidential medical records of the victims of Saturday's shooting!
Hospital spokeswoman Katie Riley would reveal the identities of the violated patients, but announced that they had already notified their families that their information had been accessed.
They've also released the following statement:
"The hospital has terminated three clinical support staff members this week for inappropriately accessing confidential electronic medical records, in accordance with UMC's zero tolerance policy on patient privacy violations. A contracted nurse also was terminated by the nurse's employer. We are not aware of any confidential patient information being released publicly."
Unbelievable. As if these poor people haven't been through enough!
Way to take a horrific tragedy and just make it a little bit uglier, you guys!
We hope that you're really proud of yourselves.
