Test Tube Babies Hit 5 Million Milestone

In-vitro fertilization has introduced almost five million new people since the first test tube baby conceived in a petri dish was born.

On an average per year almost 350,000 babies are born which is 0.3 percent of the 130 million babies born per year.

0.3 percent of 130 million babies! We had no idea there was so many babies born this way.

Here's what a scientist said:

"Millions of families with children have been created, thereby reducing the burden of infertility,"

Although the practice has been met with harsh criticism most notably from the Vatican, the practice is much less controversial than it was when it was first introduced in England almost 35 years ago.

Here's what another scientist said:

"[The five million milestone} justifies all the legal and moral battles, the ethical debates and hard-fought social approval."

Hey, we're going to agree with the scientists on this one.

A scientist in the Netherlands has announced that he's working on creating "cultured meat," which consists of "burgers or sausages grown in laboratory Petri dishes rather than [being] made from slaughtered livestock." Wowsa!

Vascular biologist Mark Post says that the first "lab-grown hamburger" will cost approximately $345,000 to create, and it should be coming soon.

Here's what Post had to say about it:
