Phil Collins Ca$hes In, Does Covers Of Motown Instead Of Original Material On New Album

Ugh. Did you get this shiteous inspired idea from Rod Stewart's foray into soul??

Those excited to hear some original material on Phil Collins' next album are going to be sorely disappointed, because the legend is only doing covers of soul songs!

Even more disappointing about his Motown tribute Going Back is that he's not even trying to make the songs fresh or reimagined!

He says:

"It shouldn't really be a surprise to anyone that I've finally made an album of my favourite Motown songs. These songs, along with a couple of Dusty Springfield tracks, a Phil Spector/Ronettes tune, and one by the Impressions, make up the tapestry, the backdrop, of my teenage years. I remember it as if it was yesterday, going to the Marquee Club in London's Soho and watching The Who, The Action, and many others, playing these songs. In turn I'd go out the next day to buy the original versions. My idea, though, was not to bring anything new to these already great records, but to try to recreate the sounds and feelings that I had when I first heard them. There was one moment when they were tracking (Martha Reeves & The Vandellas hit) Heat Wave that I experienced a wave of happiness and wonder that this was actually happening to me."

All right, we respect that you really love the music and want to take a little trip down memory lane by honoring the greats, but enough's enough!

We want Phil Collins, not Phil Collins editions of songs that are fine just as they are!!

What do U think?? Are U excited for Phil Collins Does Motown??

Phil Collins Unable To Drum Again?

Now that Phil Collins is suffering from severe nerve damage, it's made it impossible to even pick up his drum sticks. The singer/musician talks to Rolling Stone about the future of his music career.

Here are some HIGHlights:

On not being able to play:
“The first time I picked up the drum sticks after my neck surgery, they flew across the room because I couldn’t grip them. When I play, I’ve had to tape the sticks to my hand. It’s like wearing a condom. It’s very strange. It really cramps your style.”

On the severity of the nerve damage:
“I can’t let go of the spoon or the knife when I eat. I can’t open a car door. I won’t get gruesome with you, but there’s a lot of things I can’t do. I’m left handed. I’m having an operation soon and there’s a good chance of it improving over time.”

On a Genesis reunion:
“My hands are way down to picking the order of that possibility. Three years ago I didn’t know I’d be in this position and three years from now it may not be like this. I think the main thing is Peter’s schedule and the speed he works anyways."

On being one of the few progressive rock bands in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame:
“Whoever is deciding these things, obviously they change. Now there’s obviously a couple of people there saying ‘Guys we’ve ignored all this other stuff’ which is why you’ve got Abba and the Hollies and us. Very diverse. Jimmy Cliff is somewhere in there. Much more diverse than just rock & roll I think this year. ”

He's a trooper! We're sure he'll come back better than ever!
