Elisabetta Canalis

Even though she's no longer on Dancing with the Stars, Elisabetta Canalis has been finding ways to fill her time.

Like saving a pigeon.

She tweeted:

"@ChoMatic just found a pigeon in the middle of the street. A cat bited him … I'm going to see a vet later to know if he is ok and if he can fly away."

With the help of a vet from Wildlife Care of Ventura County in California, he bird was recovering well. Canalis wrote:

"Igor looks better today! He wishes you guys good morning."

She really does care about the animals. So those PETA ads were more than just an excuse to get nekkid! LOLz!

Mike Tyson won't stop talking about birds!

The boxer just wrapped his pigeon racing show for Animal Planet, revealing:

“I don’t know why I was fascinated with pigeons at a young age.”

He goes on to say:

“Maybe because I didn’t have any friends and I could be myself around them and not be judged for anything. My family understands the sentiment I have for my birds and they know the peace they give to me.”

Aw. That's actually sweet Ty!

How Are Pigeons So Good At Navigation?

Pigeon Smell Direction

Did you know pigeons are considered the most intelligent bird?

It's their incredible ability to navigate that makes the bird most impressive.

An interesting fact about pigeons is that even if they are released thousands of miles away from their home, they will return back to their roost.

So, what is it that makes them navigate so accurately? Do they follow road signs or do they navigate by use of the earth’s magnetic field?

A study was conducted using a flock of 31 pigeons were selected that had been hand-raised in Pisa, Italy. Scientists inserted small, rubbery plugs into either their left or right nostril. When these pigeons were released 42 km away from their home, they managed to come back safely. But the ones with their left nostril plugged made it back much faster.

This finding suggests that pigeons rely mainly on their distinctive olfactory sense and their ability to recognize odors when they navigate.

Their sense of direction is special - but something humans should not take advantage of.

PETA Protests Mike Tyson's Pigeon Racing Show

Mike Tyson's Show Is protested

Tyson vs PETA!

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals demonstrated outside Mike Tyson's suburban home to protest the former boxing champion's role in pigeon racing.

A Henderson police spokesman said Tuesday the PETA demonstration on Monday outside Tyson's gated hillside neighborhood was peaceful.

Some of the 20 protesters carried signs reading, "Featherweights: No match for a Heavyweight," and "Mike doesn't give pigeons a fighting chance."

PETA's Lisa Lange says the protest followed Sunday night's debut of the Animal Planet show, Taking on Tyson. It features Tyson competing with pigeon racers in the New York City area.

Mike, a devout vegan and animal lover had no comment.

Is pigeon racing wrong?

Drug Smuggling Pigeon Arrested Outside Colombian Prison Walls

Filed under: DrugsWacky, Tacky & TrueSilly!Birds

OMG! This is ridiculous!

Colombian Police officials have arrested a pigeon after being caught trying to fly over the wall of Bucaramanga prison with 1.6 ounces of marijuana strapped to its back.

A police commander called it "a new case of criminal ingenuity."

We wouldn't call it new since Pigeons have been used to transport messages for over 2000 years, but rather, retro.

We hope to hear about criminals leaving a giant Trojan horse outside the walls of the prison, only to be filled to the brim with illegal drugs, next.

Mike Tyson's Reality Show About Racing Pigeons, Coming Soon!

Mike Tyson trains racing pigeons

Mike Tyson has apparently been a life-long pigeon lover and has a 6-part documentary debuting on Animal Planet in March about it!

Tyson is heading back to his Brooklyn roots to train racing pigeons, which the retired rapist boxer describes as:

"The crème de la crème of the pigeon world. These are thoroughbred pigeons."

We never knew!

Apparently, Tyson escaped his childhood bullies on the roof of a house next to the gym where he trained and found tranquility raising pigeons.

Taking on Tyson was shot in New York City last spring and explores the complex world of racing pigeons, which is a little-known sport in much of the US.

Although the main focus is on Tyson and a group of other pigeon fanciers training birds for races, we'll also get a glimpse into the former boxer's checkered past and his life as it is now.

The star of the show said:

"This is what we do. Our lives are dedicated to pigeons, even when I have been fighting or getting locked up. This is not no hobby. This is something we are going to do until the day we die."

Fly or die!

Based on EVERYTHING Mike Tyson has ever done, this should be one entertaining reality show.

We just hope the techniques used to train and race these pigeons are humane and do not hurt the birds in anyway.

Thoughts???
