Truvada

We told you they were about to do it!!

The FDA has just approved the first pill that will be used to prevent HIV, called Truvada!

Truvada has been a around for a while, actually, and has been used to treat HIV — not to prevent it. Now it's approved to do both!

This will help people who are at high risk of acquiring HIV through sexual activity, like those who have HIV-infected partners.

In a three-year study, they found that daily doses cut the risk of infection in healthy gay and bisexual men by 42 percent, when accompanied by condoms and counseling!

That's a great number! So fab!

UK Pharmaceutical Company Creates Pot Pill

If you think medical marijuana cards are crazy, prepare to go nuts!

A pharmaceutical company in the United Kingdom has created the first prescription drug from marijuana plants, which has already been approved in Canada, New Zealand, and 8 other European countries.

Sativex was developed to treat multiple sclerosis patients with symptoms including neuropathic pain, spasticity and overactive bladder, but also has the potential to treat pain caused by cancer.

If it works, it sounds great to us! However, just because other countries are using cannabis in medicine doesn't mean the FDA will allow it here (except all those pot stores we see all over El Lay).

Check out the quick video above to get the basic info and let us know if U think this medicine should be approved for usage in the United States!

Kim Kardashian Diagnosed With Psoriasis

Kim K skin condition

If you've seen any pics of Kim Kardashian with red spots, resembling bug bites, on her skin it's because the reality star has been diagnosed with psoriasis.

While dermatologists say the skin condition is completely manageable with the help of pills, creams, or even injectable medication, it's understandable why someone like Kim — who makes a living off of her appearance — would be worried about the diagnosis.

Citing obvious media scrutiny for her every move, Kim said:

"People don't understand the pressure on me to look perfect. When I gain a pound, it's in the headlines, so imagine what the tabloids will do to me when they see all these spots."

We can't see it affecting the 30-year-old's career too much because, as it turns out, the matriarch of the Kardashian clan, Kris Jenner, was diagnosed with the disease at 30 too and we've never noticed.

According to a leading dermatologist, "if managed properly, it can be kept under control and she can lead a perfectly normal life."

Kim will learn about her condition in an upcoming episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, which airs on July 24th.

New Pill Could Prevent HIV

This is promising.

A new study reveals that an AIDS drug used to treat HIV can also be used to prevent the deadly virus among heterosexual men and women.

The study involved 4,758 heterosexual couples in Uganda and Kenya, in which one partner was HIV positive and one was negative. When taking the drug Truvada, there was a 78% reduction in HIV risk as opposed to those who were taking placebos.

There were 13 HIV infections among those on Truvada, 18 for those who took Viread (another pill to treat HIV) and 47 on the fake pills.

Dr. Lynn Paxton of the CDC said, "This is a good day for HIV prevention."

Good day, indeed! It's a huge step, but still still a small victory in the war against AIDS and HIV. Although, with a promising breakthrough such as this one, we remain hopeful.
