Pink Floyd Beats EMI Again!

pink-floyd-wins-case-against-emi-record-label-over-digital-downloads

Another win!

Pink Floyd has successfully beaten their record company, EMI, in the courts over whether or not their music can be sold individually by track on-line!

As we've reported, the band has argued that a clause in their contract should prevent EMI for selling their songs separately, as it was signed in 1999, before digital downloads took off.

Their lawyer, Robert Howe, argues that his clients want to "know where they stand as a matter of contract" and is concerned that EMI's "entitlement to sell individual tracks, or indeed any tracks, otherwise than in the original configuration of the Pink Floyd albums" and that they're "wrongly exploiting" the group.

After they originally won their case in March, EMI appealed the decision, and now, the Court of Appeal has once again shut them down!

Ouch!

Sorry guys! If it's in their contract - you can't do it!

Pink Floyd Movie In The Works

Pink Floyd Movie In The Works

This is going to be trippy!

Andy Harries, who produced The Queen and The Damned United, is in the early stages of creating a movie around the Pink Floyd song Another Brick In the Wall.

Harries wants to avoid remaking the already popular Pink Floyd movie The Wall and instead tell the true story of the schoolchildren who sang on the 1979 number one single and their maverick music teacher — who, incidentally, was fired after the song came out.

This better get made!! For realz!!

Uh, oh!

Many of Pink Floyd's albums have been taken off the Internet after a distribution deal with their record label ran out.

The Wall, Animals, Wish You Were Here and The Final Cut have all been removed from online digital stores because the contract with EMI expired on June 30.

The band's reps are working on securing a new deal to bring the albums back for digitial downloads.

Pink Floyd Wins In Court

As we previously mentioned, Pink Floyd was suing EMI Group over music royalties - and they won!

The record label will no longer be selling single downloads from their concept albums. It has not been determined how much the band will be owed, but the costs are estimated at £60,000.

Despite the fact that Pink Floyd's contract stated that their music could not be "unbundled" from its original context, EMI had been selling the music as singles AND using it as ringtones.

Ouch!

Wonder how long its gonna be till EMI completely goes under?!

Pink Floyd Sues Record Label Over Internet Music Royalties!!

ap670303031jb.jpg

We wonder how this is going to work out, especially given the nature of the suit!!

Pink Floyd is currently in a legal battle with their label, EMI Group Ltd, over what kind of royalty payments they should be awarded in the age of digital music!!

The group's lawyer, Robert Howe, claims their contact prohibits selling tracks "otherwise than in the original configuration of the Pink Floyd albums," while EMI says the rule only covers their physical albums!!

C'mon, EMI!!

Just pay up - they've been with you since 1967, don't skeeve them over now!!
