Pirates Love Avatar!!!

pirates love avatar

Looks like pirates have set their sights on Pandora!

James Cameron's Avatar has been named 2010's most popular illegal download, with over 16 million BitTorrent downloads alone!

Avatar has received 51 percent more BitTorrent downloads than last year's #1 illegal download, Star Trek.

Other films on the unfortunate Top 10 List include Kick-Ass, Inception, Shutter Island, Iron Man 2, Clash of the Titans, Green Zone, Sherlock Holmes, The Hurt Locker, and Salt.

Don't worry too much, James! We're sure plenty of folks will still pick up Avatar on Blu-Ray & DVD to stuff those stockings!

Now, get going on that Avatar 2 script, bb!

Pirates Love Chuck!!!

pirates love chuck

Curious to hear what movies and TV shows are being pirated these days?

You'll probs be surprised to hear that the most pirated show last week was Chuck!

Really? The show's been on since 2007! We're surprised the brand new AMC show The Walking Dead isn't higher on the list.

…Or what about Boardwalk Empire? That would make more sense because you need to have an HBO subscription to watch it!

As far as films are concerned, apparently the most pirated film last week was Despicable Me!

Why that one? Are pirates getting younger? Are parents pirating for their kids? Or are adults just getting more immature?

Some strange piracy choices going on!

Hit the jump for extended lists of the most pirated films and TV shows last week!

France Fights Music Piracy With Revolutionary Program!

france starts carte musique program

In order to stop music piracy, France will be subsidizing the legal downloads with its new Carte Musique program.

The European Commission approved the plan earlier this week, which will give 12 to 25-year-olds the chance to buy a €50 gift card for the price of €25. The French government will pay the difference.

Participants will be allowed to purchase one card per year and the program will last two years. And the sites that accept the cards are expected to lower prices for music downloads, provide offers to extend music subscription services and contribute towards Carte Musique advertising.

The government expects 1 million cards to sell each year.

Inneresting idea!
