plastic bag eater

How?!?

Why?!?

What the F?!?

These are just some of the questions we ask out loud any time we watch a new installment of My Strange Addiction.

And this week was no different! We could barely watch as we met Robert, who can’t stop eating plastic bags!

This guy has already devoured more than 60,000 bags in his life! He even has a favorite variety - the plastic wrapping that newspapers come delivered in!

Robert showed all how he drives around, hunting for plastic newspaper bags and stealing them off of people’s driveways!

Next, they go to the supermarket, where the unknowing cashier asks him an easy question - paper or plastic?

LOLz!

Well, at least Robert is single-handedly saving the environment from all of these evil plastic bags!

Ch-ch-check out the jaw-dropping video…AFTER THE JUMP!!!

El Lay BANS Plastic Bags!

LA Bag BAn

You feel that, environment??

That's the feeling you get when a huge city just straight up BANS the use of plastic bags!

L.A. loves you!

Julia Louis-Dreyfus and an array of environmental groups pleaded with the City Council to vote with the environment in mind — and it worked. They voted 13 to 1 to phase out plastic bags over the next 12 months at an estimated 7,500 stores!

For the city, that means you should be stockpiling those cloth-reusable bags: there will be a four-month environmental review of the bag ban, and then an ordinance putting it into effect. Larger stores are then given six months to stop using plastic bags and smaller stores/markets will be put on a 12-month phase-out period.

Plus, you don't want to have to pay for paper bags, do you? Because retailers would be required to charge 10 cents per bag starting one year after plastic bag ban starts.

In other words, you have about 2 years to build a nice little collection of world-conscious reusable bags before they make you pay!

Of course, we totally feel for those earning a living for their families in the plastic bag industry — this can't be a very good sign.

Though, they do have some buffer to start looking for jobs if they think that they're in danger!

We think this is fab for the world, and should follow in the footsteps of San Jose, San Francisco, Long Beach, L.A., and dozens of other municipalities!

You Should Be Using Reusable Shopping Bags!

Cat Deely Plastic

We know, we know. It's easier just to have them give you plastic bags at the check-out than it is to remember your reusable ones while you're in the grocery store!

That's NO excuse, however, when you hear about what those bags are doing to the world — especially when most stores are already giving you incentives to switch!

Plus, paper bags are usually just as bad. It sucks, but it's true.

Here are some facts about plastic bags:

Italy Bans Plastic Bags

Italy Bans Plastic Bags

As of New Year’s day, plastic bags are banned in Italy.

According to WWF biologist Eva Alessi, each Italian uses 400 plastic bags a year, making up 25% of plastic-bag use in Europe, so this ban was a long time coming.

Environmentalists everywhere are praising Italy for this move, as plastic bags are terrible for the earth and can take decades to decompose.

The US needs to follow Italy’s example!!
