The Pope Gets His Own Holy Fragrance!

pope-benedict-gets-his-own-personal-fragrance.jpg

Pope Benedict XVI is finally getting a fragrance to call his own!

Italian perfumer Silvana Casoli is the nose behind the holy aroma and is meant to reflect his love of forests, animals, peace and tranquility.

While concocting the fragrance, Casoli says she "thought of the smells the Pope would smell when praying at the Grotto of Lourdes" and apparently that includes lemon tree blossom and the smell of spring grass.

Inneresting.

For those wanting to get a whiff of the eau de Pope, you're S.O.L. The unnamed fragrance is for the Pope's nose only.

susan sarandon gets backlash for anti pope comment

This one was bound to piss A LOT of people off.

Yesterday, we reported that Susan Sarandon made a comment at last weekends' Hamptons Film Festival, in which she described the current Pope as being a "Nazi," and then said it AGAIN for emphasis.

Now, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) is coming after Susan and asking that she apologize.

Introducing…The iPope! Vatican Gets A Twitter!

Oh man, we wonder what this will mean!

Will all prayers now be in 140 characters or less?! LOLz!

Pope Benedict XVI made history today by not only getting an iPad at age 84, but by using it today to launch the Vatican's new website, News.va, and to TWEET for the first time!

The message read:

"Dear Friends, I just launched News.va Praised be our Lord Jesus Christ! With my prayers and blessings, Benedictus XVI"

Check out a video from the big event (above)!

Glad to see the church is getting internet-savvy!

Here's hoping that they can get a little more savvy about their stance on gay rights!

Hey! Just saying!

Vatican Conference Hosting AIDS Experts To Discuss Prevention

Pope Benedict HIV talk

Is the Catholic church finally starting to come to its senses?

Pope Benedict XVI has made headlines over the years for his ridiculous remarks about the church's immoral position on condoms. In 2009 he told reporters that condoms cant curb the AIDS problem, but actually "increases the problem".

How so? The church believes the HIV virus can easily pass through latex, giving condom users a false sense of security.

In his recent book Light of the World, the Pope took a massive leap forward (sort of) by suggesting people who use condoms, such as male prostitutes, are making a moral decision because they are looking out for the welfare of another person.

We're pretty sure ANYBODY who uses a condom during sex is looking out for the welfare of another person and themselves, but apparently the Pope only thinks male prostitutes have STDs.

However, the Catholic church may finally be ready to open up their minds because the Vatican has invited AIDS experts from around the world to a two-day symposium on preventing HIV and caring for people with the virus this weekend.

Some speakers at the conference organized by the Pontifical Council for Health Care Workers believe (like rational people) condom's are an "integral and essential" part of prevention programs.

The church has maintained the position that abstinence and fidelity in marriage are the best ways to curb HIV, but let's face it. Sex is natural and sex is fun, so why not preach what can actually save lives if their followers give into temptation?

Jewish People Not Responsible for Jesus' Death, Says Pope In New Book

Wow. Finally looks like something's come up that'll stir up more conversation than Charlie Sheen's every move!

In excerpts from his upcoming book Jesus of Nazareth-Part II, Pope Benedict XVI "explains biblically and theologically why there is no basis in Scripture for the argument that the Jewish people as a whole were responsible for Jesus' death."

Here's what American Gathering of Holocaust Survivors and their Descendants' Elan Steinberg had to say about it:

"Holocaust survivors know only too well how the centuries-long charge of 'Christ killer' against the Jews created a poisonous climate of hate that was the foundation of anti-Semitic persecution whose ultimate expression was realized in the Holocaust."

And here's what Anti-Defamation League national director Abraham H. Foxman had to say about it:

"[That Benedict is a theologian makes] this statement from the Holy See that much more significant for now and for future generations."

The Pope Says "Be Yourself" On The Internet

pope says be yourself online

Pope Benedict XVI loves us just the way we are as long as we have Christian names.

In a statement released by the Vatican today, the Pope "advised people to avoid giving 'in to the illusion of constructing an artificial public persona for oneself.' "

Here's what the Pope had to say in his statement:

The task of witnessing to the Gospel in the digital era calls for everyone to be particularly attentive to the aspects of that message which can challenge some of the ways of thinking typical of the web. First of all, we must be aware that the truth which we long to share does not derive its worth from its "popularity" or from the amount of attention it receives. We must make it known in its integrity, instead of seeking to make it acceptable or diluting it. It must become daily nourishment and not a fleeting attraction.

We agree with what the Pope is saying to an extent. Certainly, people shouldn't consume themselves with being popular online, and they shouldn't allow themselves to lose a sense of reality by spending ALL their time on the Internet.

As long as nobody is being hurt by it though, we don't see a major issue with adopting an online persona.

Everything in moderation.

What do U think about the Pope's Internet statement?

Pope Says Marriage Is Not A Right

pope-benedict-says-marriage-is-not-a-right.jpg

Pope Benedict XVI told priests in his annual speech on Saturday that they need to do a better job counseling couples who plan to marry.

Benedict added that no one has an absolute right to marriage and to ensure that marriages last longer, Catholic churches need to provide pre-marriage counseling to help avoid a "vicious circle" of invalid marriages.

According to records, the United States had more annulments in 2006 than than anywhere else worldwide.

"The church and society at large place too much importance on the good of marriage and the family founded on it to not make a profound commitment to it pastorally," Benedict said.
