The Sargassum Fish: Master Of Disguise

Omg… if we were a fish, we'd be terrified right now.

We're not a fish, thankfully. Though we do still feel a little shaken up.

The Sargassum fish blends in so well with the Sargassum plant that other fish don't even know it's there until they're already being eaten.

Check out the above video for one fishy master of disguise.

Our Brains Are Wired To Pay Attention To Animals

Our Brains Are Wired To Pay Attention To Animals

There is a science behind why we like zoos!

New research shows that the human brain responds to animals like no other person, place, or thing.

The studies co-author Ralph Adolphs explained to Discovery News that –

"it is important for the brain to be able to rapidly detect animals. The reasons for this are probably several, but would likely include the need to avoid predators and catch prey."

The scientists found that neurons in the right amygdala (one of the two almond-shaped groups of neurons located deep within the brain) responded preferentially to pictures of animals, whether they were of cute little critters or threatening big beasts.

The research suggest that animals may even affect our emotions.

Maybe this explains why over 100,000,000 have watched Sneezing Panda!

January Jones: This Week, Don't Just Watch Sharks, Save Them

You tell'em!!

January Jones is a man woman when it comes to protecting sharks!

Earlier today, the blonde actress took some time out of her busy being pregnant schedule to write contribute an article to the Huffington Post:

This week, more than 30 million Americans will tune in to watch Discovery Channel's Shark Week. It's easy to understand why: Sharks are some of the most amazing, powerful animals in the world. But as you sit transfixed by high-definition images of sharks, keep in mind that sharks aren't the scariest predators in the oceans. Humans are.

Tens of millions of sharks are fished from the ocean every year, mainly for their fins. As a result, some shark populations are crashing, which has devastating consequences for ocean ecosystems.

If you think watching a shark on TV is cool, try looking one in the eye. Over the past few years I've dived with Caribbean reef sharks in the Bahamas, and more recently with whale sharks in Belize, filming public service announcements with Oceana. I'd love to continue diving with sharks — but at the rate we're going, Shark Week could become the only way to see these beautiful predators.

In 2009, January joined Oceana's shark campaign. Watch her video HERE!

Shark Jumps Over Surfer

OMG!!!!

A couple of fellas were out filming a story about surfing at New Smyrna Beach, when they caught a four-foot spinner shark jumping out of the water and fly right over a surfer trying to catch a wave.

We're not sure if that shark was trying to catch a wave, or catch a surfer.

But we're just gonna assume the shark was having fun some innocent fun… or trying to escape an even bigger predator!!!! AHH!!!!!
