Binge Drinkers Might Now Be Categorized As Mild Alcoholics!

Filed under: Wacky, Tacky & TrueAlcoholScience!

alcoholism-definition-changes-include-binge-drinking-booze

Psyciatry's diagnostic manual, the DSM, is about to label almost 100% of college students 'mild alcoholics.'

LOLz, okay, it's not that bad. 40%. What we mean is that they're about to categorize binge drinkers, and other levels of alcohol misuse, with a new definition of alcoholism that blurs the lines between problem drinking and alcoholism itself.

To test this new definition, they had to take a look at how it changed the diagnosis.

The researchers studied more than 7,000 fraternal and identical twins. The twins responded to questions that assessed whether they met criteria such as loss of control over drinking, trying and failing to cut down or quit, and hazardous use (such as drunk driving) that doctors commonly use to define alcohol problems.

pope-tim-tebow-jeremy-lin-sports-morality-money-religion-wacky

Does the Pope really not remember the time when sports involved giant coliseums and people being eaten by tigers? Or when sports just a few decades ago didn't even let black people play?

We're not quite sure what kind of lost morality he's looking for, but we also have to say that contrary to popular belief, not everyone is a Christian.

Yet here he goes: The Pontifical Council for Culture is going to host an international conference on re-instilling values in sports this spring, inviting representatives from top world governing bodies like FIFA, the International Cycling Union and the Italian National Olympic Committee — including Tim Tebow and Jeremy Lin.

polar bear plunges healthy not rick health dangerous

Do you know what a polar bear plunge is?

If you thought about it, you could guess: it's when you jump into freezing cold water for the hell of it. The question is, though, whether or not it's good for you!

Vinny Guadagnino has done the Coney Island Polar Bear Club's 110th New Year's Day Swim twice now. Here's what he says:

"You get a rush when you're there because there are so many people doing it. It's definitely like a shot of adrenaline… It doesn't affect you that much — you just have to go in, and do it, and jump back out… Afterward, as soon as I get out, I have a towel waiting for me, and I dry off quickly. That's it — and then, I just chill."

BUT IS IT GOOD FOR YOU??
