Quick Tip Of The Day

Sleep is an essential ingredient in looking and feeling your best. A minimum of nine hours of sleep each night should be your goal.  Between hour eight and nine is when your body is rebuilding muscle so it is a crucial hour to be sleeping.  When you are well rested it will also show on your face with a refreshed look, and your skin, hair and nails will look fabulous too.  If you have trouble falling asleep, don't watch TV or work on your computer just before bed.  Studies show it is best to have an electronic curfew an hour before bed or else the light exposure before you try and fall asleep can throw off your body's rhythms and suppress the release of melatonin, which is the hormone that is vital to a good night's sleep.

"Being TOO strict with your child's diet can backfire. If you are too strict and tell your child he/she cannot have any sugar, sweetened cereals,fast food, soda or other typical foods that their friends are eating, these children often become adults with major food issues. As adults they often over eat and binge on the foods their Mother or Father told them they could not eat as a child and they rebel as adults. Therefore, an occasional fast food meal, soda or a piece of cake is FINE, you cannot shelter them from the world of food! As a registered dietitian I have seen this first hand when counseling over weight adults who had parents that obsessed about food and restricted ALL junk food! Just keep your child active, and the majority of the time feed them healthy foods! "
