Erykah Badu Is Donating Her Concert Proceeds To Help Clear An 11,000-Case Backlog Of Untested Rape Kits!

no title

This is an incredible cause — and it just proves the power of celebrity in helping to push an issue to the forefront!

Back in 2009 in Michigan, more than 11,300 rape kits were found abandoned in a Detroit Police Department storage unit, and the evidence therein of womens' rapes by all sorts of unknown perpetrators was left completely ignored and untouched.

Since then, the Michigan Women's Foundation and a group called Enough SAID have put together something called the African American 490 Challenge in an effort to raise money to get every single one of those rape kits fully tested in an effort to find justice for the victims (each kit costs $490 to test, hence the project's name).

Now, Erykah Badu is joining in the fight in the BEST way, and she deserves a lot of credit for quite literally putting her money where her mouth is!

The singer is hosting a concert at Detroit's Chene Park Amphitheater on August 12, the proceeds of which she will be donating to AA490 in an effort to get as many of those kits tested as possible!!

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy — who worked alone for years trying in vain to find justice for the thousands of female victims — was ecstatic about the news, saying:

WTF PBS?!?!? Tina Fey Censored!

Filed under: TV NewsPolitikAwardzTina FeySarah Palin

pbs edits tina fey broadcast

Not cool, PBS. Seriously.

PBS aired a broadcast of Tina Fey's acceptance of her Mark Twain award at the Kennedy Center, but they edited her speech!

During the speech, Tina Fey said the following about Sarah Palin, which was edited out of the broadcast:

"And, you know, politics aside, the success of Sarah Palin and women like her is good for all women - except, of course –those who will end up, you know, like, paying for their own rape 'kit 'n' stuff, but for everybody else, it's a win-win. Unless you're a gay woman who wants to marry your partner of 20 years - whatever. But for most women, the success of conservative women is good for all of us. Unless you believe in evolution. You know - actually, I take it back. The whole thing's a disaster."

Here's what was included in the broadcast as far as Tina's Palin-related comments are concerned:

"I would be a liar and an idiot if I didn't thank Sarah Palin for helping get me here tonight. My partial resemblance and her crazy voice are the two luckiest things that ever happened to me. All kidding aside, I'm so proud to represent American humor, I am proud to be an American, and I am proud to make my home in the 'not real' America. And I am most proud that during trying times, like an orange [terror] alert, a bad economy or a contentious election that we as a nation retain our sense of humor."

Here's what an executive producer on the show, Peter Kaminsky, had to say about the edited broadcast:

"It was not a political decision. We had zero problems with anything she said."

More from Kaminsky:

“We took a lot out. We snipped from everyone."

You SAY you snipped from everyone, but it's shady inneresting that comments Tina Fey made about Palin that could be viewed as positive ones were kept in the broadcast.

Smells a little political to us, PBS. Just sayin'!

What do U think about the edits done to Tina Fey's broadcast? "Time Restraints" or Political?
