redbox taking over blockbuster express

Watch out, Netflix! Redbox is comin' for you next!

Yesterday, Redbox parent company Coinstar announced that they'd be purchasing NCR's Blockbuster Express DVD rental kiosks for $100 million!

For the moment, the Blockbuster Express machines will remain blue, but soon enough we'd say they're likely to turn red.

Here's what an NCR spokesman had to say about the deal:

Verizon Partnering With Redbox To Launch Netflix Rival

Redbox the new netflix

Redbox + Verizon = tough competition for Netflix!

Verizon and Redbox are reportedly partnering up to launch their own streaming movie and television service.

Starting next year on May 28th, both companies will offer customers the opportunity to buy credits that they can use to purchase and rent videos online OR at the Redbox kiosks.

The project is "a top priority" for Coinstar, the company behind Redbox, although sources say the service, which aims to reach 85 million households in America, won’t seek to beat rivals in offering the newest releases.

In which case, Netflix might still have a chance.

Given all the crap Netflix has put their customers through over the last couple months, do U think Verizon's new service will steal any of their customers?

NOOO! Redbox Raises Daily Rental Price From $1 To $1.20

redbox-prices-increaes.jpg

Oh, don't you dare, Redbox!!!

After Netflix screwed us over with their price changes, you were our one and only hope!

Ugh. The daily rate of $1 will be going up at the end of THIS MONTH. Yup, starting October 31, daily DVD rentals will now be $1.20. Way to give us notice, Redbox!!!

The company, which is owned by Coinstar says that "the change is primarily due to the increase in operating expenses."

CEO Paul Davis said:

"Our redbox business alone passed $1B in revenue year to date and became the leading renter of DVDs by staying focused on delivering great value and convenience to our consumers.

This marks the first price increase for a redbox standard definition DVD rental in eight years. The change is primarily due to the increase in operating expenses, including the recent increase in debit card interchange fees as a result of the Durbin Amendment."

Blu-ray discs will remain at $1.50 and video games will stay at $2 a day.

Still not cool though. We are totally disappointed in you, Redbox.

To see the email they sent out to subscribers, look above. So disappointing…

Will Netflix Go Bankrupt In A Year???

netflix may go bankrupt in a year

Don't spend TOO much time creating an extensive Netflix queue…you MAY not make it through the whole thing!

Yesterday, we reported that Netflix stock prices hit a 52-week low EVEN THOUGH the company admitted they wrong and announced that they wouldn't split into two separate entities for DVDs-by-mail and streaming service.

Now, investors' blog SeekingAlpha.com is saying that they believe Netflix could be bankrupt WITHIN A YEAR!:

Netflix Shares Down Another 11 Percent

wall street says netflix screwed up

Not shocking. Not shocking at all.

This is what happens when you over price something, and then split it into two, inconvenient, mediocre things.

You get virtually no confidence in your stock from shareholders and customers alike. How much more of a wake up call do you need, Netflix?

Swallow your pride:

Looks like the creator of Pinhead is raising some HELL over this new movie!

Last week, we saw the trailer for the new Hellraiser flick (above), and while we didn't think it looked TOO scary, we still thought it could be fun.

Now, the man who created the horror series, Clive Barker, has opened up about the new flick, and he is NOT happy with it.

Here's what he had to say about it
