A New Bill In California Will Force Public Schools & Their Sports Teams To Drop The Redskins Moniker
This was a long time coming!
According to California lawmakers, public schools will be forced to ban naming sports teams The Redskins and teams already using the moniker must eventually phase it out.
Over the past few decades, the term "Redskins" has become extremely outdated and offensive to many, including those who don't belong to a Native American community.
Beginning January 1, the California Racial Mascots Act will give schools until 2019 to change their team names and to discontinue uniforms that bear the offensive term.
Obviously, the move has divided the state and not everyone is a supporter of the bill.
