Even though Michael Phelps is the most decorated Olympic athlete in the history of the games, it doesn't mean he's perfect.
As we're sure you know, the 30-year-old was arrested and charged with DUI back in 2014 to which he plead guilty and ended up going to rehab.
Well after getting his mind right, the gold medal athlete decided to turn things around and announce that he would be coming out of retirement and competing in the 2016 Olympics in Rio this year!

Of course, many fans are still curious about Phelps' troubles, so the studly swimmer sat down with Matt Lauer on TODAY to get completely candid about his problems.
Not only did the Olympian admit he was in a "downward spiral" but he went on to dish there was even a point when he "didn't want to see another day." Thankfully, the aquatic athlete now has a new outlook on life and is looking forward to retiring the way he wants to retire!
