Losing weight is only half of the battle, keeping it off is the other half!
A new USDA study of 926 people with BMIs 25 or higher (the marker for being overweight), who lost 10 percent or more of their total weight, found the TWO main reasons participants were able to keep the weight they lost off.
It wasn't switching up their workout routine, laying off the carbs, or any other diet or fitness secret that may come to mind. In fact, the secret was actually IN their mind all along!
The SECRET to keeping that weight off is following two simple steps: Reward and Remind yourself.
Researchers found those who practiced these two R's were MORE LIKELY to stay motivated after they lost the weight and continue to live a healthy lifestyle.
Although rewarding yourself after hitting a weight-loss milestone is a great motivation to continue the journey, it's also great motivation to keep the weight off. For example, schedule an awesome weekend activity you've always wanted to do (or just love to do) after you've hit up every workout session you were supposed to!
It's tempting to reward yourself with the delicious food you've been missing for the last 20 pounds, but remind yourself WHY you've been avoiding these foods and look in the mirror at where avoiding them got you!'
Remember, the secret to maintaining a healthy weight is maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Remind yourself that you made the healthy changes for a reason and reward yourself for sticking to them!
