Earlier this month, rapper/actor Ja Rule was given a June 8 start date for his two-year prison term for a NY gun charge.

At the time, Ja's lawyer said he'd be finishing his new album Renaissance Project, and taking care of "tax matters" until the beginning of his prison term.

Apparently, he had some SERIOUS tax matters to take care of, because on Tuesday he plead guilty to tax evasion in NJ, for unpaid taxes on over $3 million of income!

Looks like he'll be sentenced for his tax evasion charges this June.

At least he's facing the music and getting all of his affairs in order before prison.

Who knows? Maybe his album will sell REALLY well, and then he'll come back strong in two years.

Well, that's quite a departing gift, isn't it?

Before beginning his two-year jail sentence for gun possession, Ja Rule has promised fans that he will be releasing a new album - one day before reporting to jail!!

Over the weekend, he wrote on his Twitter account:

Breaking news………RENAISSANCE PROJECT JUNE 7th!!! Mpire Music…

Ja pled guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon after he was arrested during a traffic stop. Police found an unlicensed .40 caliber handgun in the backseat of his Maybach.

Last week, a judge allowed Ja to finish his album and resolve an outstanding tax issue until June 8.

This will be his first album release since 2007's The Mirror.

We bet Ja fans are happy that the judge granted him time to finish the album.

With four years of material, we have expectations for the new disc. Too bad he won't be able to celebrate the release of his album - unless he has a party of one behind bars.

Whomp whomp.

Last month, Ja Rule's sentencing date for his July 2007 New York gun charge was rescheduled to March 9.

Now, the rapper/actor has been sentenced for his two-year prison term, which will begin on June 8.

At least he'll be productive in the meanwhile. According to Ja's lawyer, he'll be finishing his new album Renaissance Project and he'll spend time taking care of "tax matters" until his prison term begins.

As we said before, we hope Ja will learn his lesson after his prison time. Carrying around loaded semi-automatic firearms is NOT acceptable.
