Crash In Nevada Results In Heartbreaking Loss Of 42,000 Pounds Of Ketchup!

ketchup spill truck accident nevada travelers reno traffic

Everyone head to your local McDonald's and console your devastated fries — a truck carrying 42,000 pounds of ketchup crashed on the I-80 in Reno, making commuting impossible for a lot of travelers!

Unless they got their be-Heinz in gear and began Hunts for alternate routes! LOLz!

The truck swerved to avoid a collision, hit the center median and then knocked over a light pole that slashed open the trailer. Cleverly, transportation used snow plows to clean it all up! That's actually some quick thinking, as we're sure someone suggested burgers (and someone suggested steak but got slapped by everyone who knows A-1 is better)!

We do have one question though: how do they transport the ketchup in the truck? Was it a giant vat like for gas? Thousands of bottles?

Why isn't anyone explaining this!

Oh wait, they are: it was thousands of individual bottles. Carry on! Ha!

Nine Lives Lost In Tragic Reno Air Show Plane Crash.

Just awful!

During the National Championship Air Races and Air Show in Reno, Nevada yesterday, a pilot lost control of his vintage plane during a race, only to crash into box seats next to a grandstand, leaving 50 injured, and sadly, as of today, nine dead.

According to authorities, seven of the victims died on the tarmac, including the pilot, and the remainder succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.

Check out footage from the crash (above). WARNING - although not graphic, this is not easy to watch.

Although the pilot, Jimmy Leeward, lost his life in the crash, along with many others, more than one spectator have come forward to call him a hero for avoiding the grandstand.

Ben Cissell explains:

"I think that pilot in the last seconds pulled up because he saw the bleachers and saved about 200 or 300 others. I don't mean this as a disrespect to others injured, but that pilot is a hero. He saved a lot of lives today. It could have been much worse."

And Kim Fonda agrees:

"I closed my eyes and said, 'I am going to die now'. I was literally preparing to die and then he jerked the plane away and it landed like 25 feet from us. I want his family to know he was a hero."

So unbelievably tragic. And although our hearts go out to all those injured, as well as the loved ones of those who were lost in the crash, we are also very grateful that no more lives were lost - especially when this could have been a much more catastrophic accident.

May those nine people R.I.P.

More bad news Saks Fifth Avenue.

After shutting down both the Portland and San Diego locations in May, the luxury department store has decided to close the Saks in Southampton as well as their Off 5TH in Reno.

Saks CEO Steve Sadove explained:

Store closing decisions are difficult ones to make, but the planned closing of these two locations is consistent with our strategy of deploying our resources in productive stores and closing underperforming stores, when feasible.

Wonder which stores are next???

The Cal Veva Lodge, the infamous casino where the Rat Pack would smoke, drink and gamble, is closing its doors!

Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr spent a lot of time their in the 60s and it was also where Marilyn Monroe spent her last weekend before her passing in August of 1962.

Since the casino is in Reno, there was too much competition from Las Vegas and along with the recession, was forced to close.

"This was one of the hottest casinos in Nevada when Frank owned it," said tour guide Carl Buehler. "Frank had all the stars coming in and out of here, and it was always packed with people. I think the history is what keeps the Cal Neva going."

It has a renovated celebrity showroom and a helicopter pad on the roof along with tunnels used to shuffle mobsters and celebrities beneath the resort.

And although the casino will close, the restaurants and showroom named for Sinatra, will remain open.

Sad.
