Perez Reviews: 'The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night Time'

The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night Time is one of the best plays we have EVER seen!!!

Wildly inventive in every which way, the new show on Broadway explores some powerful themes. The three which resonated the most with us are…

- The untapped potential within all of us
- Not to judge or underestimate others
- The ties that connect us ALL together

These themes were explored in so many fun and fresh ways, all while being incredibly deep, moving and powerful.

The play revolves around a dog's murder and a 15 year old autistic boy determined to play detective and find the culprit.

The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night Time is a drama, a comedy, a murder mystery and - most similarly - it moves and feels like a musical, even though it's a play.

If you liked War Horse, then you will like this show EVEN MORE!

Every single element is so inventive, from the superb writing and storytelling by Simon Stephens, to the illuminating and ever-changing set by Bunny Christie, which enhance the experience in infinite ways.

All this brilliantly put together by the director, Marianne Elliott, who cast a top-notch crew of actors that all delivered homeruns. However, in his Broadway debut, Alex Sharp, literally months out of acting school at Juilliard, gives a grand slam performance! The acting, the doing. He DID so much! He made it seem so effortless! Such a dynamic, real, beautiful performance!

Major hats off to everyone involved with The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night Time!!!

Perez Reviews: 'Lypsinka! The Boxed Set'

no title

After a long break from performing… Lypsinka is back!

Lypsinka is not a drag queen. She is a drag LEGEND! An icon that transcends the genre!

John Epperson, the man behind the femme fatale, is a huge talent and a fierce comedic actor - and we are thrilled that we got to see his Lypsinka! The Boxed Set greatest hits show in New York City on Friday night.

We had never seen "Lypsinka" before, so we didn't know what to expect. She is in her own lane, combining real old school drag miming and with impeccable timing and a fully realized show. Plenty of costume changes a rich set and oodles of glamour.

RuPaul girls have nothing on Lypsinka!

SO MANY highlights in the Boxed Set show, but the most brilliant and inspired segment was a recreation and reinterpretation of The Twelve Daze Of Christmas. We were in pain laughing!

What's also very impressive is that Epperson is performing The Boxed Set in repertoire with two other shows. That's a lot of material to have to remember!

Lypsinka is back, but for a very limited engagement. Get your tickets today. It's a must see!!!

Perez Reviews: The Last Ship

The Last Ship is the first musical of the new Broadway season we have seen and it is ambitious and it's from Sting and, unfortunately, it's very disappointing.

The best way to describe the show is… like Billy Elliot without any gayness or without the heart and dazzle that show has.

The Last Ship is bleak, and though there are some moments of levity, the darkness far outweighs the light.

And as we could tell by the opening night audience, there's only so much heaviness people want and can take!

The main problem with the show is the book, by John Logan and Brian Yorkey, and the decision to make the socio-political story the main one, while the more compelling love story and the father/son story played second fiddle.

If people were more invested in the characters and more attention paid to them and less to the more global "economic drama" in the show, The Last Ship would have been far more compelling!

The female lead, played by Rachel Tucker, is SEN-SA-TIONAL! She's almost too good! She makes her male counterpart pale in comparison.

Choreographer Steven Hoggett did a super job of injecting the show with some much needed joie de vivre, but those moments were few and far between.

We appreciate all that The Last Ship attempted to do. We just wish it would have done it all more effectively!

Mayim Bialik May Be The Only Person In Hollywood Who Doesn't Like Frozen!!!

mayim bialik may be the only person in the world who doesnt like the movie frozen

We didn't think this was possible!

Mayim Bialik is a mom of two young sons, and thus has obviously seen the Disney movie Frozen.

However she was NOT a fan of the flick! And her reasons why may surprise you!

We know they surprised us!

Perez Reviews: Piece Of My Heart

You may not know the name Bert Berns, but you definitely know his music!

The legendary songwriter is responsible for such iconic hits as Twist & Shout and Piece Of My Heart.

And, now, some of Berns' best songs form the heart of a new Off-Broadway musical about his life, Piece Of My Heart.

The show is satisfying but could benefit from some major changes, if it has aspirations of a Broadway run.

Berns was not only a gifted songwriter, but he was also the head of his own record label and a brilliant producer. Unfortunately, this show ONLY highlights the songs he wrote. But it would greatly benefit from the inclusion of some of these other hits he didn't write but was involved with, like Van Morrison's Brown Eyed Girl or Under The Boardwalk by The Drifters, both of which he produced.

As it is now, the show feels like it has too much filler and not enough killer. It just can't compete with the catalogue of mega hits that is Beautiful or Motown.

Or, if it will remain featuring only the songs Berns wrote, then Piece Of My Heart would benefit a lot from some major trimming. It could be a lot more effective as a one-act musical.

Also, the arrangements of the songs did not do them justice. Twist & Shout never twisted nor shouted!

And the book had too many sensationalized moments. Tone it down!

What makes Beautiful and Motown so effective is that they're simple stories with a lot of heart.

Sometimes less is more!

Thankfully, Piece Of My Heart features a great cast and with some work it can be a real contender!
