Star Wars fans finally got the worthy sequel they waited decades for when The Force Awakens hit theaters last month!

But it looks like fans will have to wait a little longer than planned for the next one, because Disney pushed back the release date of Episode VIII to the end of 2017!

The next installment of the franchise, which begins filming next month, was originally slated for a May 26, 2017 release — but now won't be hitting theaters until December 15, 2017!

The House of Mouse will be replacing Episode VIII with another blockbuster franchise

John Boyega, the star of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, may be enjoying the fruits of his labor with a record-setting box office run for the J.J. Abrams-directed flick, but the in-demand actor is already teasing new movies!

Speaking in an interview with the British edition of Vogue, the actor called the upcoming Star Wars Episode VIII "much darker" than the recently-released flick!

He also said of his personal role in it, it might require some extra muscle! He explained:

Dark and weird can be good, right?

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is already one of the biggest films of all time.

It's no surprise that with the sci-fi adventure's success, people are HIGHLY anticipating episode VIII, which will be co-written and directed by Looper's Rian Johnson. (Episode IX will be handled by Jurassic World's Colin Trevorrow.)

J.J. Abrams won't be directing the next Star Wars film — but he totally wishes he was!

According to reports, The Force Awakens filmmaker was so blown away by the script for Star Wars XIII that he regrets not agreeing to direct the next installment!

The director's lifelong friend Greg Grunberg, who has a small part as X-Wing pilot Snap Wexley in Awakens, said that he'd never heard the 49-year-old have second thoughts about passing before — except maybe one other time!

Will This Guardians Of The Galaxy Star Play The Villain In Next Star Wars Film?

Well this sounds fantastic!

The next Star Wars movie isn't even out yet, and Disney and Lucasfilm are already ramping up for the next installment!

Rian Johnson (Looper) is already signed on to both write and direct Episode VIII and we know that John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, and Oscar Isaac are all set to reprise their roles in the sequel!

But now there are new rumors floating around that the studio has its eye on a particular actor for the villain of the flick!

Benicio Del Toro, who played everyone's favorite hoarder The Collector in Marvel's breakout hit Guardians of the Galaxy, is reportedly being sought to play the big baddie in the next installment in the new Star Wars Trilogy!

The Traffic star previously stated that he may not return for the GotG sequel, so he could be free for a different space adventure!

The Star Wars sequel isn't set to start shooting until early next year and won't hit theaters until May 26, 2017, but with the studio trying to fast track, we're sure we'll hear some news sooner rather than later!

Looks like there is a new hope AND a new director!

These are not the news developments that JJ Abrams was looking for!

It's been recently announced that Rian Johnson, director of Looper, will both write and direct Star Wars' upcoming Episode VIII and IX effectively taking over duties from JJ.

Looks like JJ's power (unlimited power) will be Lost after Episode VII!

We think Disney's choice is pretty stellar…interstellar, that is!
