Wall Street Journal Reviewer Is BANNED On Broadway After Admitting She Only Stays For Half Of The Shows!

Broadway reviewer is banned from shows after flaunting her indifference

This is pretty darn unprofessional, and frankly kind of despicable.

In a recent Wall Street Journal column titled Confessions of a Broadway Bolter, theatre reviewer Joanne Kaufman admitted that she typically only stays for half of a show… and then leaves! But she still reviews them anyway!!! She explains:

"I'm embarrassed by how unembarrassed I am to admit that the very next night, I took early leave of The Country House, and the following night of It's Only a Play."

And those are only a couple of plays that she names.

Well, the Broadway community is obviously — and rightly — outraged by this admission. So much so that theatrical press agent and president of O&M Co. Rick Miramontez wrote a scathing letter to the WSJ, which they predictably did not print.

But it didn't matter because people got ahold of it anyway.

Rick explained that Joanne won't be welcome at any show he represents anymore — and that's a LOT! He went on to ask pointed questions like:

The Spider-Man Curse Strikes Again! Another Actor Injured During Musical!

Just when you thought it was safe to watch a mediocre Broadway musical…

The Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark curse strikes again!

The latest victim is Matthew James Thomas, who plays Peter Parker twice a week for Reeve Carney, and reportedly sustained an unspecified injury during a scene transition backstage at the beginning of the play's second act during a matinee yesterday! He was hospitalized, and received ten stitches!

And luckily, Carney was available to fill in for Thomas for the remainder of the show!

According to publicist Rick Miramontez:

Theatre Critics Anger Spider-Man Reps With Early Reviews

critics write early reviews of spider man musical

Looks like the folks associated with Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark are NOT happy with two theatre critics who have released reviews while previews are still running.

Jeremy Gerard from Bloomberg News and Linda Winer from Newsday have made some enemies by releasing Spider-Man reviews over five weeks before opening night.

Here's what Spider-Man spokesperson Rick Miramontez had to say about it:

"For a major critic to review a Broadway musical, or play for that matter, after only the twentieth preview, is disappointing and uncalled for. Whatever reason the critic or their editor may have, it does not mask the fact that for decades, musicals have developed in front of paying audiences before critics are INVITED. While we are certainly not naive about the media scrutiny attached to this production, as we have been accommodating throughout, this unprecedented new development is troubling, to say the least."

Winer's Newsday review complimented the show for its flying effects, but also said it had a weak second act, and she included interviews with audience members, some of whom had less-than-positive things to say about the show, and its music.

Gerard's Bloomberg review complimented the sets, lighting, and choreography, but it referred to the show itself as "an unfocused hodge-podge of story-telling, myth-making and spectacle that comes up short in every department."

On the one hand, it certainly seems like these critics crossed some lines by releasing these early reviews, but on the other hand, we haven't been overjoyed with the Spider-Man folks themselves, given all the drama and injuries that have taken place during the previews.

What do U think? Team Critics or Team Spider-Man?

Spider-Man Musical Canceled Post-Accident!

For goodness sake! These guys need to seriously re-evaluate the logistics of this show!

It's CLEARLY not safe!

After a lead stunt double Chris Tearney fell 30 feet last night during Monday night's show of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, yesterday's matinee performance was canceled!

However, spokesman Rick Miramontez insists:

“The production knows exactly what happened at Monday’s performance, and it is being dealt with. This is a maneuver that has been done hundreds, if not a thousand times, without incident, and additional redundancies are being put into place to ensure that will never happen again.”

We understand that a lot of money has gone into this thing, but honestly - if they can't get it right, they need to just stop! This is FOURTH person in a matter of months to be injured!

How many more have to hurt themselves?!

What do U think?? What should be done with Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark??
