9 Actresses Who Landed Big Movie Roles Originally Written For Men!

no title

They ain't here to play no love interest!

It's no secret that men get the lion's share of meaty roles in Hollywood, but the good old gender swap was a studio solution long before the Ghostbusters reboot came along!

Sigourney Weaver's unforgettable portrayal of Ellen Ripley in Alien is widely considered one of the best film heroes of all time, but the badass heroine was originally written as the standard male action hero before director Ridley Scott decided to switch the gender to enhance the story!

Of course, Ripley isn't the only character to get the gender flip in the development stage.

Believe it or not, Angelina Jolie's super-spy role in Salt was originally supposed to be played by Tom Cruise, and Sandra Bullock's political strategist in Our Brand is Crisis was taken from George Clooney's hands!

Find out what other famous actresses landed starring roles originally written for men (below)!

Alejandro González Iñárritu Scores Best Director At The 2016 BAFTA Awards!

Congratulations are in order for Alejandro González Iñárritu!

On Sunday, the 52-year-old was named Best Director at the 2016 BAFTA Awards for his work on The Revenant. The acclaimed director took the stage at the Royal Opera House to accept the honor!

Iñárritu gave an incredible speech as he dedicated the award to his wife ahead of their 20th anniversary and thanked everyone from Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy, to the rest of the cast and crew who worked on The Revenant!

Alejandro took the award home over fellow filmmakers Adam McKay (The Big Short), Steven Spielberg (Bridge of Spies), Todd Haynes (Carol), and Ridley Scott (The Martian), so clearly the competition was SUPER stiff!

And even though those incredible artists didn't take home this trophy, they definitely made some memorable movies! Ch-ch-check out Alejandro's full speech (above)!

The Martian Gets A Laugh Track To Make It 'Best Comedy' Material — See What Other Films The Golden Globes Shouldn't Have Considered Comedies!

Filed under: Matt DamonFilm FlickersYouTubeGolden GlobesOscarsFunny

With 6 Oscars nominations, it's no doubt that The Martian was a great film.

But when Ridley Scott's space epic won the Golden Globe for Best Comedy or Musical, audiences were a bit confused with its comedic categorization!

The Matt Damon-led pic definitely had a good chunk of jokes, but even the director himself made fun of its misplaced genre!

To prove that The Martian REALLY didn't win for its humor, one YouTube user strung together some intense clips of the clip with an old school laugh track — and it's (ironically?) hilarious!

But this film isn't the only not-so-funny "comedy" the Globes put into the category! Find out which other acclaimed films were miscategorized (below)!

Ridley Scott WON'T Be Played Off The Stage When The Martian Lands Best Motion Picture, Musical Or Comedy, At The 2016 Golden Globes!

Filed under: Matt DamonFilm FlickersAwardzGolden Globes

Unlike the Oscars, the Golden Globes recognize Comedy and Musical films separately from Drama!

And that's good news for The Martian!

Related: 11 Movies That Had NO BUSINESS Being In The 'Musical Or Comedy' Category!

In a tough category that included The Big Short, Joy, Spy, and Trainwreck, the funny flick took the gold — despite being ripped on throughout the ceremony for not necessarily being the funniest movie!

Even director Ridley Scott made a joke about the categorization of the space dram(edy) starring Matt Damon!

The filmmaker would NOT back down from being played off either — he expertly went through his SEVERAL notecards, and said "screw you" when the music came on to cue him to wrap it up! LOLz!

Ch-ch-check out the funny (not dramatic) speech (above)!

Alejandro González Iñárritu is having another AMAZING award season.

Just a year after Alejandro took home an Oscar for Best Director (Birdman), he snagged the title of Best Director at the Golden Globes for his work on The Revenant.

The talented director beat out other heavyweights like Todd Haynes (Carol), Todd McCarthy (Spotlight), George Miller (Mad Max: Fury Road), Ridley Scott (The Martian).

Hopefully Iñárritu's win signals good luck for the movie's star and Best Actor in a Motion Picture nominee, Leonardo DiCaprio! Dude really deserves an award after all his years of Oscar snubs!
