This is so shocking.
Toronto Mayor Rob Ford is dead at 46 years old, apparently succumbing to cancer, according to the Associated Press.
The former politician, married with two young children, has died after a year and a half of treatment for what is being reported as a "rare and aggressive" cancer first diagnosed while he was running for re-election to lead the Canadian city.
Ford's family released a very brief statement about his death on Tuesday, describing him as "a dedicated man of the people," and revealing that they would not be making any statements to the media.
After undergoing surgeries to remove the cancer, only to see it spread, Ford had been in palliative care at the time of his death.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Renata, and his two young children Stephanie and Douglas, as well as other family members who have survived him, including his mother Diane, brothers Doug and Randy, and sister Kathy.
