Terminally Ill Star Wars Fan Got To See Upcoming Rogue One Film Before He Died

Neil Hanvey's dying wish came true.

On Saturday, the terminally ill Star Wars fan got an advance screening of the film franchise's upcoming release, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Over the weekend, the ailing man was actually able to watch the movie with his his wife and family members, from his bed at England's St. Michael's Hospice.

Tragically, Neil passed away on Monday at 36 years old, after losing his battle with cancer.

But, before his death, hospice staff had organized a social media campaign to get Mr. Hanvey that advanced viewing. Last week, Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker in the famed franchise, saw the campaign, and took to Twitter to support the effort, retweeting this post (below):

And, Rogue One director Gareth Edwards also heard about the man's wish, and sent over a special preview version of the film, months before its scheduled December release.

After the Saturday screening, the hospice issued a statement about the heartwarming gesture, and revealed the filmmaker did "all he could" to grant Neil's request:

The summer Olympics in Rio this year have been quite exciting, but last night may've pulled a couple extra viewers in thanks to Disney dropping the new trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story DURING the games!

Even though fans had to wait over two hours into the primetime Olympic coverage for the new trailer, we FINALLY got what we were all waiting for with new action packed footage from the sci-fi epic!

The upcoming flick takes place before the events of the first Star Wars movie from 1977, and revolves around a team that is asked to steal the Death Star's design plans. Not only is the movie directed by Gareth Edwards, but it also stars Felicity Jones, Forest Whitaker, and Ben Mendelsohn. Not to mention, James Earl Jones has returned to voice famed villain Darth Vader — who you get a quick glimpse of too!

With Star Wars: The Force Awakens MASSIVE success, it's no surprise that we've got a slew of SW flicks on the way — including a Han Solo spinoff movie!

After months of speculation on who might replace Harrison Ford as a younger version of Solo, we can finally say Chewbacca has a new partner.

Deadline reports Alden Ehrenreich has landed the role of Han as sources say the 26-year-old star is currently negotiating to seal the deal.

One of the biggest and BEST movies of 2015 was Star War: The Force Awakens, which is why we're so incredibly excited for the next film that takes place in a galaxy far, far away.

While we have to wait for December 2017 to catch up with Rey, Finn, Poe, and the rest of the gang in Episode VIII, we're going to get a Star Wars prequel movie later this year!

The film titled Rogue One: A Star Wars Story takes place before the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope and follows Rebel spies as they attempt to steal the Empire's plans for the first Death Star!

The film has an incredible cast that includes Felicity Jones, Riz Ahmed, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Mads Mikkelsen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Donnie Yen, and Alan Tudyk. Alan Tudyk gives life to a motion-capture character.

Disney Reportedly Adds Even MORE Star Wars Movies After The Force Awakens' Success — Find Out Which Prequel Stars Could Return HERE!

Unless you've been living under a rock, you know how MASSIVELY successful Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been.

Of course with the kind of money and success the sci-fi flick has had, sequels are inevitable!

While you may have known we're getting five more SW films before 2020 — Star Wars: Episode VIII (which has already started filming), as well as spinoffs for Han Solo and Boba Fett — apparently there could be A LOT more flicks from the franchise coming our way!

Disney is reportedly looking into the possibility of five MORE films after 2020 and potentially giving solo films to characters like Ob-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) and Mace Windu (Samuel L. Jackson)!

Gwendoline Christie Confirms Captain Phasma's Return In Star Wars: Episode VIII!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has already become one of the most successful movies of all time.

Aside from gaining popularity with a new generation of fans, the sci-fi adventure also introduced a ton of AH-Mazing new characters like Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver).

However, there was one character fans were a little disappointed in — Captain Phasma.

Not because she wasn't awesome, but because the Storm Trooper commander — played by Game Of Thrones actress Gwendoline Christie — didn't get NEARLY as much screen time as the rest of the new cast.

Thankfully, Christie confirmed on the SAG Awards red carpet that her character would indeed be returning in Episode VIII:

Logan Lerman Has No Problem Being 'A D*ck' To Land Han Solo Role In Upcoming Star Wars Movie!

Now that Star Wars: The Force Awakens has proven to be a HUGE success, Disney is looking forward to the next films to take place in a galaxy far, far away.

While we know the next flick in the SW universe will be Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and then Star Wars: Episode VIII, the one after that will be a Han Solo spinoff movie!

But the big question is who will play the scruffy-looking nerf herder?!

The reported shortlist of actors in the running includes Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco, Jack Reynor, Scott Eastwood, Emory Cohen, Blake Jenner, and Logan Lerman.

Unfortunately, we don't know a whole lot more than the rumored names, but MTV News was lucky enough to catch up with Reynor and Lerman at the Sundance Film Festival to chat with them about the sci-fi part!

When asked about taking on the role made famous by Harrison Ford, Jack dished:
